The cover art you have is a picture of a United States Navy commander‘s rank Insignia. At the end of the chapter, you mentioned that Rust Metal Is an army officer.

There could be a valid reason for that. Actually, the chapter mentions the uniform was that of a green army officer's, but it might be described that way if the author was speaking about either olive drab or camouflaged fatigues--which would fit better in a land engagement setting than Navy blues (or those ridiculous "camouflaged" blueberry outfits that were only recently retired from US service). Navy camos are now the same as the other services.
