I can't speak for anyone else, but for me it was convenience. They're the same age, there's a pre-established closeness between them, and I could write a compelling narrative involving several themes.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! I've been in the process of writing an epilogue for a while now, but commissions have always got in the way. I hope to write it out soon and give this story a nice proper closure as I intended. There's no plan for a sequel, and honestly, I'm not sure I could do it justice. This entire fic took shape as I wrote it, and writing a sequel would be time consuming and wholly underwhelming at the end of it. I hope the epilogue will do well enough to sate the itch for more of this story.
