Either just hunting down the beast of fire or all of them is fine in my books though all might be for the best power wise. Mostly the 'form for every situation' aka the 'Ben 10' strategy. Though admittedly with the spirits of wind that would be really awkward if it was just him with the D-tector. So if there is a hunt for the rest maybe have other ponies either OC or Canon or maybe other humans pop up to fight with him using the others. After all multiple digidestined work better than just A digidestined.

One of the best moments in Frontier, when digivice ophanimon tells Koji "You must remember" and begins going through flashbacks of his grandma at the hospital and how he fell down the stairs as his brother was going to the digital world. The music that played in that moment was amazing. And the scene itself is just so DARK. I actually kind of wish we would get a darker series with a group of really damaged digidestined who each receive virus types. Basically...the digimon equivalent of what madoka did to the magical girl genre.
We got a hint of that with D3 ...especially when the D Reaper arc began.

Well if we know anything, it's that Celestia likes to fallow her gut. And I can see why you think that, but keep in mind that she already tried to make peace with the digimon, but they weren't willing to listen. Then some who not once but twice protected her ponies from danger. You could say she saw an opportunity, plus she only made him a diplomat after he succeeded. Plus by making him a diplomat she can keep tabs on both the digimon and him.

I like that series of Digimons because the chosen ones really fought directly
the main character has an attitude and it is easy to sympathize with him. It reminds me a little of Ben 10, the original.

So you decided to go with it being the all for one package. Makes sense to keep it simple course this means he's gonna have to deal with the beast spirits of each of them. That's not even counting the fusion evolutions, the unity evolutions, and the one that makes what pretty much amounts to Frontier's version of a megazord. Since Digimon Frontier is the Power Ranger season of Digimon when you think on it. 5 teens each getting a object that allows them to morph into a stronger form and eventually getting a 6th guy that at times ends to be evil before you convince him to join the side of good.

Digimon adventure 2 Ken Joins team after redemption.
Digimon adventure, takatos friends become tamer and join the team
Digimon frontier, koichi joins after redemption.
Digimon data squad , kanon joins the team after learning the truth.

Nice work adding in the spirit of ice. It worked great with the new evil Digimon in the chapter. This new development also makes the story more interesting that it could create different directions for the story to go. If there are some difficulties in finding locations for the other spirits, I have some thoughts. And if you want to make this even more interesting, why not have the character get a digi egg from Jijimon that becomes his partner.
