Seems a little forced if you ask me...
9783861
Precisely
I need some answers.... and i don't know how long i can stand waiting for them
Can you say forced melodrama?
9783908
Probably Soran.
9783983
Yeah you are probably right. I guess Soran is more blue than silver.
It's kind of a surprise, having Fleet's dad be the one acting out here. He's usually the more reserved, but now he's being impulsive, emotional.
Everyone's saying it's forced, and from what little we've seen I say it does seem somewhat out of character. But she's the one who doesn't involve them, and we're following her.
But I suppose I can kinda understand it, too. Overprotective parents like Fleet's have strict lines others are not allowed to cross. And in the moment when emotions run high no one thinks things through.
What interests me more, is the aftermath. Will he regret what he's done? The assumptions he's made? No one wants to be the bad guy here, but in that desire everything might just become worse. We've also seen what Fleet thinks of her mother, will she ever confront that?
I mean, with the occasion and all...
This resonates with me, because her parents are so similar to mine in some ways
And she fucking abandoned him? Yeah. That’s gonna take some Phoenix Wright tire explaining to justify. Otherwise Philip Should nope right the hell out of that relationship.

Folk are going to rag on Fleet because it's not what most people would consider "correct" behaviour. And they're right.
But she didn't have a choice here. This is proper lizard-brain reactionary fight or flight stuff which most people wouldn't have to deal with in this situation.
Why?
Because Fleet is an avoidant. An avoidant who has just had her carefully constructed and maintained social mask ripped off and smashed to bits. In public.
Doesn't make it alright. But at least it's not because "I specifically wanted to", or "it benefited me somehow".
Well.... that certainly escalated.
I’m starting to think that anytime a chapter starts off with everyone enjoying themselves, I should not only expect everything to go to shit, I should probably count on it.
That being said, I really hope you have the next chapter close to finished, because this latest installment has left such a bad taste in my mouth, I honestly just want the story to be done and over with already.
I thought this would turn out like Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner. I was wrong!
When the going gets tough Fleet just flies away?
When will she stand on her own four hooves?
Nothing Fleet could have said would have done any good. It never mattered how severely she was hurt, whose fault it was, or why. Jetstream had formed his opinion of Philip long ago, in the back of his mind, and the months of silence Philip inadvertently caused only gave it time to fester. At this point, no amount of logic will do any good.
Well that escalated quickly. Phillip had this coming, too bad for him and fleet it came so late. And this whole time we were led to believe from fleet's point of view that her dad was the levelheaded one, now the audience is in for a shock.

Looks like it.
You never really know who is going to snap and why until it happens.
Issues illuminated.
Worries espoused.
Ruination followed.
Jetstream understandably sought after potential issues after all that went down. It hit him harder in ways that weren't conveyed until this explosive chain of events in which we find out just who he is more so than a simple bulwark dad figure in Fleetfoot's life. With having that sort of relationship this is a pretty valid outcome from my own point of view.
I mean, your only daughter--who might I add has a personality and tendencies towards false privado--suddenly goes into a long funk and shuts out the world. Throw in how Philip and she were both known to be tight until this happened. You as the concerned father makes some inquiries into the surrounding situation and find that the two of you were indeed no longer seeing each other after showing obvious signs of increasing affection. (He got some of the details from the Lunar Bean staff for sure!) Dwelling upon the situation for some time until invited to this dinner only allowed for the various what-ifs to have germinated and more...
Put into his position after all that had gone down, I honestly believe that few fathers--even among the more meek--would not have made a similar scene as he when put into the same exact situation.
Great job on letting scene play out as it did, Freglz! I had long since written off Fleetfoot's parents as cardboard cutouts but this completely brought them back to life!
Dam you! Dam you and your beautifully written words that have whipped up my emotions and entrapped my mind. Dam you for leaving me wanting more and making it so that I can only think of how this will come to fruition.
But truly this is a great story I can’t wait for the next chapter.
GIVE ME MOAR!!!at your earliest convenience if you don’t mind
Whether people say they love this story or are getting frustrated at it, everyone needs to admit... it has your attention.
People who are getting mad/tired of this story probably expected something different. Most HiE stories end up "happily ever after." And I don't have a problem with those. This not that kind of story. This story-involving colorful talking small horses-is more true to life than any other on this website.
The characters have glaring flaws: Fleet needs to be "in control" as she keeps reminding herself, but runs when she loses this control. Her dad is a doormat, except when it comes to protecting his daughter. Philip has his own issues, especially after losing his entire human life... and is just finally moving on past that.
The relationships between everyone involved is complex. No one has a perfectly happy relationship with anyone else. Hell, even Redheart-a very minor character-was a bit upset at Philip that he didn't keep in touch.
People on this site yelling out "melo-drama much?" Of course it is! Especially a father protecting his daughter from some asshole who took advantage of her (even though that's not the case, but it's what he thinks). I'd lose my shit too.
Anyway, I'm still enjoying the story. I'm enjoying the author's forethought of the complex relations and seeing how their thoughts and feelings play out.
Thank you for posting.
Fleetfoot has this bizarre habit of claiming to love this dude but also seeming super ready to abandon him as soon as someone raises their voice at her or if things become just a tad uncomfortable
Which is a strange trait for a Wonderbolt to have since they apparently supposed to be like pony navy seals.
A father being protective of his daughter i can fully understand, and he did ask some very reasonable questions, such as would Phillip just keep on living of the princesses, does he have any future plans whatsoever, is he willing to be in a healthy serious relationship where both give and take roughly as much?
He did also bring up another valid point, she is a famous pony and from his perspective Phillip could just be using her, i say that he has every right to be concerned for his daughters sake, and as he himself said, this was all VERY sudden for him, i mean fleetfoot have not exactly been updating her parents on a day to day basis of what she has been up to the last couple of months.
However overreacting is barley scratching the surface if one were to describe what he did, and as much he is a father that is concerned over his daughter she is still a grown mare that can take decisions on her own, good or bad and live with the consequences afterwards, if he and Phillip smooth things out afterwards, i do belive it will be QUITE akward for him to apologise for all the things he said.
I am eagerly looking foward to see where this will go next, keep up the great work!
BTW, i found it kinda funny when he marched up to Phillip and told him to get out, he seemed to have forgotten that they all were guests at Twillights place.
Jetstream: YOU! get out!
Phillip: Huh?
Twillight: Oy! My place! i tell who gets to leave and who should stay! You are really taking some liberties in MY home mister!
9789344
Doesn’t Philip also still have bodyguards?
9789484
Huh, that's true, i completly forgot all about that.
Well, that meeting just plunged right into the deepest bowels of Tartarus.
I was initially inclined to believe that Jetstream's reaction was forced, but considering how little information he's had to go on, it's... an understandable overreaction.
Philip's practically a stranger to him, and this is where Fleetfoot's cultivated mask is really working against her, because this supposed stranger has somehow managed to reduce his unflappable daughter to a stammering wreck who probably looked like she was having frigging Vietnam flashbacks when he asked about her 'fight' with him. Shit, judging by the intensity of his anger and the words he used, I'm wondering if we're supposed to infer that Jetstream thinks Philip had abused Fleetfoot in the worst possible way...
9789299
Military pony she might be, but this isn't a problem she's been trained to outfly or outfight.
Well that went to Tartarus in a picnic basket. It was all going well for the most part too. I'm on the edge of my seat now and can't wait for the next chapter.
Oof. Mixed feelings on this chapter.
On the one hand, suddenly coming out about the preening like that felt a bit contrived. On the other hand, it doesn't actually matter, since the outcome would have still been the same.
On the one hand, I'm glad that Fleetfoot finally admitted to herself how much Phillip hurt her, and how she hasn't moved past it yet. On the other hand, I really wish that she wasn't sidelined in this conflict by a third party.
On the one hand, I'm glad Phillip finally got a proper earful about how he treated Fleetfoot. On the other hand, the misaligned assumptions on the part of Jetstream counters a lot of the impact.
Probably for the best that Fleetfoot got out of there when she did. While she reacts to anxiety by running, Phillip typically reacts by lashing out, and it's good that she wasn't in range when he let loose.

Here's hoping this updates soon. You nasty cliffhanger-er, leaving us hanging there!

When I doubt, coward out.
Well this is certainly an interesting turn.
And good to see Spitfire has good taste in ponies.
Meh, girlfriend's father or not, I'd put him in the hospital for pulling shit like that.
How does he know that? She never told him that.
"You seem like a decent pony. I'd hate to kill you."
"You seem like a decent pony. I'd hate to die."
I like the way I sometimes make myself feel, too.
Dumba$$. At least hear your daughter's explanation first.
