Purple Patch

Positive-Minded-Person

T

A side-story of the Rejuvenationverse.
Princess Cadence and Shining Armour are intrigued to learn of a less-than-untimely death of a prominent independent noble and the factors surrounding it.
The scent of murder draws them in to investigate.
Unravelled are the origins of the notorious royal, Blueblood.

A bit lighter than my usual work. Those of you who liked The Rejuvenation Play more than its sequels will probably like this.
Based on The Inspector Alleyn Mysteries books by Ngaio Marsh and the 1193 BBC1 series starring Patrick Malahide.

Great Work! I can Imagine that Twilight and Sunset would make Good Friends and playmates at Friends. I write Twilight's Nickname as twily

Yeah, that’s kind of the fanbase trend.
In a way, I tried to give Sunset a bit of an ambiguous moral spectrum. She’s kind of caustic but she avoids been outright unpleasant.
Considering what happens later.

Good to know. Thanks. :pinkiehappy:

Interesting. I think Alma might be mistaking cause and effect with Blueblood and Gwendolyn. Depending on how tight she tried to keep his leash, he might be acting out anywhere that isn't in her presence. Kudos for creating what look like actual people and not the StupidEvil stereotypical nobles many fanfics throw in!

Also, I'd like to note two things, if I may:
First off, common writing convention is that if dialogue is followed with a variation of "said", the spoken part ends in a comma. The entire thing is more or less still one sentence.
"So, it would look like this," he said. There are as well some sentences of dialogue that lack ending punctuation at all, so you might want to go over things again.

Secondly, this part:

She smiled at Alma and shook her hand deftly.

Unless things suddenly turned Anthro, this might be a mistake.

I can't say that I have a favorite, I like them all.

I'm afraid I can't take credit for the characters, they're based off Inspector Alleyn, but the narrative is my own.
Sorry, that's a weakness of mine. I'll go over it, don't worry.

Impressive as always. Guess they really rarely have a quiet time.

“Never...Never...Never...Never, Never!” he bellowed, raising his glass with his magic, shaking with fury, before pausing to glance at the drink, downing the afore-requested whiskey and soda, and then hurling it at the wall, shattering it soundly before storming out the room, making his way upstairs judging by the sound of stomping hooves.

You got that from Scoots, don't you?

Glad you liked it.
Actually no, that's new to me.
As I said, I'm basing it off an old British Murder Mystery.

8284748
Ah, I see. A good idea.

...How can a murder mystery be rated E?

8285032
Whoops. Sorry, I'll remedy that.

It's a weird effect to have almost the entirety of a chapter in italics. I know it's because a character is relaying a past event, but it looks a little like something got messed up with the coding.

8288093
Yeah, sorry. It's just for the flashback.

Didn’t they tell you?” the filly was grinning “I’ve been sent home from school. I’ve got ringworm. Want to see?” She made to lift her bonnet.

“No!” Alma snapped, startled, checking the soles of her hooves, the irritated scowl returning upon the impertinent foal.

:rainbowlaugh: I have to remember that joke!

“Absolutely, Papa, I’m ready on your command!” the young stallion said joyfully, shivering with anticipation as he pawed at the curtain switch.

LIke father, like son, eh?:yay: Great job!

Good to know.
To be honest, Blueblood and Herod are more alike than they realise.
I think that's largely the reason why they can't stand each other.:trollestia:

8397525
I see, a hate-love relationship

8397526
Not exactly.
It's more a case of their own flaws staring them both in the face.

Nice detective work you two. Shining could dress as Sherlock Homes, semiliar as his sister did, the the pony counterpart of Sherlock could help out.

“Oh well. A foal can never have too many raspberry cushions. I’ll take one anyway. That’s Caraway’s problem, not mine.”

Indeed, you can never have too many.

It was never easy for a foal to experience death in a creature they’d raised themselves. Somehow, a pet dying always felt to sudden. Like one couldn’t quite say goodbye to it in the same way as a pony.

I know that feeling too well, lost my cat, Tiger, that was very close to me back in 2012. Really cried over his death but in my heart, he always will be alive.

8444054
Thanks.
I think Cadence would be wearing the Sherlock Holmes hat. Maybe that's where Twilight got it from.

Sorry to hear that. I think everyone who's had a pet suffers from that kind of heartache.

8444255
Yeah, that would makes sense. About my cat, apprechiated. I thought by basing the cat of the hill's of him, I could honor him. He was like a little brother to me

Is that will enforceable? It seems very odd to have that degree of control without the family having any recourse, especially as they aren't inheriting anything; normally all a will can do is specify what happens to the estate, even if it puts conditions on it.

I do agree with your opinion of MustLoveFrog's work though, it's some good stuff.

8445700
Well, it's going to be contested now, with him dead.
It's all rather dubious and, since it was clear he wasn't in his right mind, we may never know if he would have renegaded on it when he came to his senses or if the courts would allow it.

:fluttercry:Oh... Poor Babbles...

I enjoyed it, great work! Playing happy families at work is a bit inappropriate for the guards. This could suit well with the crime scene

Great work, especially with the emotions, eager to see how they poive this all. Juggling multiple fics is difficult, yes, but if you need variety, it's a good thing. At least for me.

8693952
Thanks. I get ya.
So, who do you think did it?

8694051
To be honest, I forget but I let myself surprise for the end.

Well... pretty sure it's not Blueblood, he's unlikely to have been in the position he was in later Rejuvenationverse stories if he was a convicted murderer.

Much beyond that, no real idea, but if I had to guess... Maeve. The speech may have been rehearsed, but it'd be a damn good way of getting yourself dismissed as the killer.

Being Bald isn't that bad, Caddence. And I guess Runcible Spoon is a realative of Silver Spoon. Great work!

Kitty, that was one of the many nicknames for my cat, tiger.

8957419
Yeah but after someone's died, its a bit shocking to suddenly see all their hair's fallen out.
Yeah, Silver was in Chapter 5. Her family's based off MustHaveFrogs' take on her.
Well yeah, she's a Hello Kitty reference. :twilightsheepish: Though the Kittiwake is actually a seagull.

8957445
I see, looks we have more in comman in terns of MLP as I thought. Toger orginally was named Catweasel, but I nicknamed with Tiger, little Tiger, Kitty and even kid cat

Is 1193 BBC1 really the series's real name?

8957445
Ah,m sorry, get always reminded of my cat when I hear his name, his death had affected me deeply.:twilightblush:

8958118
Sorry to hear that. I know what its like.

8957462
No, no, it's called The Inspector Alleyn Mysteries.

8958165
It's okay. Was back in 2012, I thought I could hive him a tribute by basing the hill's cat of him in the italy story.

8958171
That seems fair.

So who do you think is the murderer now?

8958200
Hmm...I got a suspicion who it could be, our friend with C

8958203
I don't quite follow. Who do you mean?
(Put it in Spoiler font just in case)

8958206
C*SCAD*US ("friend" with C)

8958207
Er, no. This is one of the few times he isn't involved.
Try again. It is definitely a Sanguine.

8958211
Ah, I see. Still, kiinda suits him. If you need some suiting chase and investigation music, L.A. Noire could help you with that

8958216
Your welcome. I loce as it is set in 1947, how they based the soundtrack of jazz music, the Investigation Theme is well made, thatr#s why I used it in my investigation
