Outside of the main story, there are some German soldiers stuck in Finland being hunted by some very scary Soviets and, while some their leaders are blatantly insane, most of the average soldiers are little more than scared young men who really want to get out of the war.
We can't judge an entire nation based on the actions of their leaders.
