Good story! It was pretty funny seeing how Twilight managed to walk around being fat!
Although what would make this story more better is if Twilight went through more conflicts. Maybe a few in publicity? It would be really funny seeing her manage that on for a week!

I mean, these magical talking ponies are basically people, so you can't justifiably use that as an excuse to separate Equestria from the real world. And I don't think I knocked anybody's fetish. All I was doing was relating my own experience. I used to be fat, and never at any point in that period of time was I as happy as when I lost all that weight. I used to come up with all kinds of excuses--"I don't care what people think of me," or "I like being able to eat what I want, when I want"--but in the end, it was just me trying to justify a lack of control. Few things are as satisfying as that moment when you realize you've taken hold of the reins and become a better person for it.
You're allowed to like what you like, and the things you find attractive don't say anything about you as a person, but my experiences showed me that there is nothing fun about being fat.

But given that we're talking about a world where ponies can talk, fly, use magic and control the weather, I honestly think I can use that as an excuse to separate Equestria from the real world. And no offence, but I think you're reading a bit too deeply into this. This is a fetish fuel fic -- nothing more, nothing less.
I think the reason for Shining Armor's increased appetite may be traced to the reason he's so fat: Cadance. He's not just gaining for his own enjoyment (though that's certainly part of it) he's getting fat for HER. Guy's gaining in the name of love, Twiley.
