Not sure how to answer that question.
But I think I figured out Why I was spooked out at AJ schoodelypooping with a donkey.
I'm a farmer myself. Not one of fruit, but of livestock. Sheep to be more precise. My father and my grandfather has been raising this herd of Gotland sheep for a simple desired effect: the pelts. We produce a unique color in them in town and we have an interest in making sure that our animals stay that way.
Result? I'm influenced by selective breeding. So... yeah, one could say I am a specieist, that ponies should mate with ponies. So I wasn't fully keen on seeing AJ with a donkey rather than another pony.
That said, I am a big SoarinJack fan. Give me a decent story of the two and you can expect me to be there.
But hey, you want her with a donkey? Go ahead. See if you can cure me of my bad, bad, selective breeding seeing ways.

Well, I did research for that story. I always do research when I'm writing. I've seen some disturbing shit for this particular one... But that's not the point. The point is : mules are selectively bred.
Obviously, they're not bred as a race, being all sterile, but if you want a big and strong mule, you can't just take any jack and mare. Ordinary donkeys are too small, so there are races like the mammoth jack which are being selectively bred, only to produce the biggest mules you can get. That's even more true for hinnies, since with a jenny as a mother there's even more limitation on the size of the foal.
All that aside, I picked a donkey because that's rarely been done before, honestly. There's no love for the donkeys, the poor guys... I'll probably write some chapters with Apple Fritter and her boyfriend, anyways. Good old pony on pony action. And something with Big Mac, if it strikes my fancy.
