Heh, well it's about damn time I saw another TTGL fic on here! Lord knows mine's kind of crap, and I haven't seen Dusty's update in forever...
First off, very well done. Your writing style, if not the best I've seen, is certainly leagues above most of the "authors" on this site; your descriptions and general flow worked well, I didn't spot too many grammar errors, and, most importantly, you were just plain entertaining. Good job; you've certainly earned a thumbs-up.
Moving on, I find myself hoping that you'll expand this someday, mostly because I'm curious as to how you'll reconcile the two universes existing side by side, with human, pony, and beastman populating the same world. Should be interesting; might even be worth a follow.
Now, I hate to end on a negative note, but I feel like I have to mention that Fluttershy's Lagann suddenly growing into a mecha the size of Gurren Lagann, without any other Gunman to combine with, struck me as a bit off. Now, it was obviously awesome and hot-blooded, but I always felt like the point of a Lagann unit was not to be awesome by itself, but rather to amplify the power of another Gunman to unbelievable levels. That's why COMBINE! was always one of my favorite parts of the series, because, in addition to the comedic value, it showed that the unity between Simon and Kamina was far stronger than either of them could be on their own. So, as much as I hate to admit it, I can't view Fluttershy's ascension as truly legitimate, especially when the problem could be fixed by adding in someone else, like Applejack, with their own version of Gurren.
That said, I would like to emphasize that I did truly enjoy this; you did a really good job with this, and I hope to see more in the future.

379426 Your point about Fluttershy is where its one-shot nature let it down. There were two reasons for Fluttershy's Lagann single-handedly evolving, both of which would've become apparent over the course of the actual fic. I probably will change it in the final product when I actually get round to it.

One of the main issues with concepting has been who to give a pony counterpart to. On the one hand, there are already LOADS of characters. On the other hoof, it might end up being too TTGL-centric if I don't put in enough ponies, especially seeing as the beastmen won't have them. I think I need to practice a lot more before I'll be able to pull the balance off correctly.

To me, it seems a lot simpler to just have Gunmen exist in the MLP universe then try to merge them together; honestly that's what I'm trying to do myself. Sure, the character's aren't going to match up perfectly (Besides the obvious Kamina-Dash relationship. Because that's just damn near perfect) but with a little tweaking here and there similarities start to fall in place.
Scootaloo, being an orphan raised underground her whole life, may not have Simon's initial timid nature or his adroitness at digging, but given her natural devotion to Dash and her inability to fly, and she's got a similar enough personality and flaws to overcome to play our young protagonist.
Applejack, though obviously incapable of using a rifle (And lacking entirely any hints of fanservice, thank God), possesses enough "surface" smarts to act as Rainbow and Scoots' guide once they finally break out of Ponyville, in much the same way as Yoko was Kamina and Simon's guide.
Alter the nature of Gunmen so that they're operated by magically charged gemstones instead of just machinery, and Rarity makes for a good Leeron (And giving Applebloom some proficiencies with mechanics couldn't hurt either).
And Pinkie Pie, what with her all-around kookiness and ability to be awesome when the situation requires it, subs in almost perfectly for Kittan.
As you can probably see, I've put WAY too much thought into this. Because I am utterly insane.

I'm still not decided on the final format. For me, the lure of Rainbow Dash and Kamina is just too great, and I have some (I think) damn good ideas for the universe that contains both, but it might end up just being too much hassle. Basically, the pegasi would be living above the clouds, which would be magically sealed in some fashion. Their situation would mirror the humans' and ground ponies under the ground. The idea is that Celestia and Lordgenome had pulled the same trick, just in different directions. Simon and Fluttershy's development would be parallel, but mirrored, with Simon learning to rely on people other than Kamina and Fluttershy learning to stand on her own (and eventually becoming RIDICULOUSLY powerful in Spiral/magic/whatever terms). I have this fantastic image (the image that made me write this in the first place) in my head of a wide shot of the wasteland with a line of green bursting from both the ground and clouds and meeting in the middle.
I always felt Scootaloo was too brash for a Simon. She definitely fits the plot though. To me, the Rainbow Dash/Fluttershy and Kamina/Simon relationships are just too perfectly matched.
I like Applejack as Yoko, I have to admit. It makes the whole Big Mac-as-Dayaka thing work pretty well too. By the time I actually write this thing, half of it is going to be credited to you =p
Yeah, Rarity is already my Leeron. She's just too perfect for it it's not even funny. At the moment, I'm undecided on the relationship between magic and Spiral Energy. There's something incredibly clever lurking in the depths of my mind but I just can't bring it up.
I couldn't find a place for Pinkie. I love Kittan FAR too much to give anything but the BEST treatment, and Pinkie just didn't feel right. At the moment she's hammering buttons with Attenborough.
As you can see, I have been thinking about this to equally ridiculous lengths. I love me to build worlds.

Now, I'm no stranger to world-building myself (Try GMing for a Homestuck RP, and you'll get A LOT of practice), but I've still got no idea how you could really pull off a MLP/TTGL hybrid universe. Very much looking forward to whatever you come up with. That image sounds amazing, in any case.
As for the Simon/Scootaloo relationship, like I mentioned they're not exactly similar in terms of personality. You're spot on when you say that Scoots' far more brash then Simon. In fact, the two of them are kind of polar opposites. However, that's also one of the reasons I want to use her as a protagonist; I really don't want to just retell Gurren Lagann, but with ponies. That's what I tried the first time around, and it was an undeniable failure, both in terms of writing and plot/character development.
Also, while we're bouncing character ideas around, mind if I throw out a few of my thoughts on villains? For the basic mookish Beastmen, I figured that using Diamond Dogs, Timber Wolves, the occasional Manticore, and a few Cockatrices would make for some decent henchmen, scaling difficulty when appropriate. The Four Generals, on the other hand, are a bit more challenging: I've got Gilda and Iron Will down for a couple of those slots, but having some trouble with those last two. Maybe one of the teenage dragons from Dragon Quest, but that's really all I've got.
Nightmare Moon will be playing the role of the Lunar Empress, and Discord should make for an interesting twist on the Anti-Spiral. Thoughts?
381587 If I'm honest, I only really wrote this because I'm on TENTERHOOKS for Super Robot Taisen Z2 Saisei-hen and have been rewatching all the series in it.
Yeah, pretty much any bestial antagonist from the show so far can be random beastmen. As for Generals... Okay, I'm hesitant to tell you this one because I totally want it for myself, but... Steven Magnet as Adiane. I mean... it's just... right. SO RIGHT. Obviously you're not doing direct parallels, but yeah, Iron Will is a good Thymilph (with extra POWEEEER) and Gilda a less psycho Cytomander. The fourth... Huh. Yeah, that is a tricky one. Even if I take Guame out of the equation, I'm trying to think of animals from the show. Maybe... Maybe Angel? Sometimes a silent villain can be pretty intimidating.
Discord and the Anti-Spiral... is weird. One the one hand, it feels perfect because Q, but I think that the ideals are kind of contradictory. Discord craves randomness and chaos, whereas the Anti-Spirals were all about stagnation for the sake of safety. I get the feeling Discord would be like "Spiral Energy? SURE WHY NOT"
Not sure what you mean by Lunar Empress though.

Moving on: To begin, there's no need to worry about me stealing any of your ideas. I've been on the receiving end of plagiarism before; it is not a fun feeling. In all seriousness, if you don't feel comfortable about sharing some of this stuff, then by no needs feel like you have to. To be honest, I'm starting to think that the comments section might be the wrong place for this conversation, considering how many possible plot points are being tossed around.
Now to immediately ignore my previous sentence, and charge right into the meat of it.
Honestly, I'm a little reluctant to use Steven or Angel as a real villain. An obstacle that needs to be surmounted, maybe, but considering their established personalities, I just can't see them as malicious entities. A melodramatic crybaby and an overly hostile spoiled pet, most certainly, but evil or insane? I don't think I could write that properly. Thanks for the idea though.
As for Discord, well, here's my logic: As the physical embodiment of Chaos, Discord is naturally opposed to Harmony and all it entails. MLP canon has established that Friendship is built upon Harmony, and furthermore that Friendship is, quite literally, Magic. So, while I agree entirely that Discord would be fully behind the concept of Spiral Power, I do also feel that he serves as the absolute antithesis of Magic (Which, in case I haven't mentioned it yet, is what I'm subbing in for Spiral Power).
As for cowriting this... once more, I have to admit my reluctance. I think it's fairly obvious that we've both got significantly different ideas of where we want our stories to go, and to be honest, I really want to see both of them come to life. These ideas have been bouncing around my head for way too long, and I finally found some spare time to express them as best I can. At the same time, the base concept of your universe, as I've already said, strikes me as incredibly intriguing, and if the above one-shot is any indication, I've got no doubt that you'll come up with something awesome once you've finished up your current story (Which I really need to find some time to read. Maybe tomorrow.).
That said, while I don't think it'd be a good idea to collaborate on these particular stories, I would like to emphasize that you are far too correct in pointing out the lack of HOTBLOODED PONIES in this fandom. If you were being serious in your offer, then I'd be more than happy to bounce around some ideas with you in my spare time.

Ponies need to shout more. Fact. I personally want to get into animation. There are some scenes from Harpflank and Sweets that I just REALLY want to do super-short but super-awesome animations of. But first I'd have to learn to draw on a PC relatively well, THEN learn how to animate, so it'll probably be a long long while =p Unless I can improve my work to the point where I'm popular enough for someone to do it FOR me. This is in no way my secret dream.
I have to say that I feel terrible, terrible because I can not/do not have the words to express the feeling I have for this work but also for the comments section as well. To me hearing others brainstorming of what may be is just as good as reading a great story. I also feel terrible that it took a week to actually get to this, normally I would have been on it within the hour.

860495 Well, kouma just means pony, so that's pretty dumb. The combined one, Jinba Ittai, is one of those neat little aphorisms. It means roughly "horse and rider as one", the idea that a horseman should be so in tune with his horse that they're basically the same being for the purposes of MAXIMUM KILLAGE. Aaand the two robots, horse and rider, have combined into one. It's basically just an awful pun =p

I only got like half of this, but I nevertheless feel bereft that there will probably never be a full version. c.c
