According to Greek mythology, the constellation 'Cassiopeia' was created when Poseidon tied the Queen of Aethiopia to a chair and placed her in the sky, punishing her for proclaiming that she was prettier than the Nereids.
Ask anypony in Equestria, however, and they'll tell you that story is a bunch of baloney.
This is the story of Cassie, a young filly fighting for her life, and how she found a friend and kindred spirit in the Princess of the Night, forming a bond that would alter the night sky forever.

Lovely, very touching, and a good character piece on Luna. The idea that Luna has some role in all the constellation myths is intriguing and entertaining, and her actions above are in line with the characterization she received in Luna Eclipsed, where she showed signs of being highly protective and caring to the young.

...why does this not have more comments? This is a masterpiece of writing. Luna seems quite in character from what we've seen of her, and it was very nice to see Cassie and Luna get along so well. My only issue with this story is that "Cassiopeia" is definitely not a normal pony name, and some acknowledgement of that would have been nice. Beyond that, however, a spectacular story.

That's a good point - if the constellation doesn't exist yet, where would the name come from, and why would anypony use it as a name for their foal?

Maybe it's an old family name, and she was named after her great-great-grandmother or something.
2602362: Headcanon acquired! That even explains why Luna didn't find the name to be weird in any way; after all, she may have been around when that naming system was in place.
2602405 I've added a few sentences about the name's history to the story. It's not perfect, but at least the name doesn't just appear out of nowhere anymore.
