After a long day of court, Celestia is ready to strap in for a few hours of paperwork. What she wasn't ready for, was to see herself already doing it.

Celestia has been here before. It's not the same, it never is, but it always ends the same way. She's seen it all before, and no matter how inevitable it feels, she's never been the biggest fan of Fate. She just needs to know why it keeps happening.

Celestia, though she has long sought an apprentice for herself, has never once found one she felt required her personal guidance. Disappointed, the Princess decides to go to the Canterlot Library to visit an old friend. And it is here that, for the first time, she comes upon a mare with a very noticeable love of magic.

Fate isn’t what it seems. It can be manipulated. Corralled. If, of course, you know what you’re doing. And if you’re willing to risk your very existence.

Celestia never loses, because she never has only one chance to get things right.

But there is a pony, or something like a pony, that holds the true power over the strands of fate. There are only so many fatal gambits you can make before a line must be drawn.

Winner of GaPJaxie's sixteenth Quills and Sofas Speedwriting Competition, where it was written between me and Syke Jr in 90 minutes. The prompts were "Back to Back" and "A Stitch in Time"—during the writing period, each one of us knew only a separate half of the prompts.

Raven Inkwell picked the wrong week to take a vacation. Specifically, the week when Shining Armor was brought in to consult on improving Canterlot Castle's defenses against the threat of Grogar and his cronies.

To say that Raven has a mess waiting for her when she gets back is a colossal understatement.
