With the defeat of the sirens and her subsequent acceptance at school, Sunset Shimmer had thought her life had made a turn for the better.

She thought it would be easy to simply forget the Dazzlings.

However, a run-in with Sonata Dusk brings in another perspective on the whole Battle of the Bands episode, one Sunset had never really stopped to contemplate.

After all, it takes one monster to understand another...

A blizzard has hit Canterlot, and because of it, schools out. Sonata uses this as an opportunity to show Aria and Adagio just how fun winter can be.

Weeks after defeat, the sirens known to many as the Dazzlings lost their magical voice. Adagio became depressed, Aria shut herself from the world, and Sonata just did what she could.

Adagio used to pay for everything, but ever since that fateful encounter, she was simply too depressed. Sonata thought she could do it, but suddenly, Aria was paying for everything.

Sonata wondered; where is she getting all the money?

This story is a sequel to Expulsion

Sonata Dusk, once lost and unsure, is living proof that people can change. When she realizes how hard it is to make amends and regain the respect of her peers, she will make an attempt to do some good, so the students of Canterlot High could see who she really is.

Setting up a café sounds like a great start.

Sudsy Bubbles spends her days working alone at her laundromat. Try as she might to attract customers, no one ever comes to wash their clothes.

That all changes one fateful day when a frantic blue-haired girl, her clothes soiled, shows up looking for a place to hide. What happens next, neither of them could predict, but they'll certainly remember it.

The reader is encouraged to have seen Rainbow Rocks. It was pretty good, after all. Also, it's relevant to this story.

Sonata Dusk has been kicking around the human world for a long time, but she has never set foot inside a school before the incident at CHS. One lazy morning during her walk with her friends, she decides to take a good long look inside Crystal Prep Academy, and may end up finding much more than she bargained for.

Adagio takes a spill during an attempt to gather energy. It's something the other two sirens aren't likely to let her forget for a long time.

Inspired by this video and a conversation between Tired Old Man and myself.

When Sonata Dusk walks into Sugarcube Corner during Pinkie Pie's shift on a Friday afternoon, it seems like a normal, routine event like with any other customer.

When Sonata comes back the next week - and the next - and Pinkie eventually asks her out - it's more fun than the colour pink or warm caramel-fudge swirl.

Neither has any idea what they've gotten themselves into.

This is a minorly-altered canon (but probably not entirely alternate universe) fic in which Pinkie and Sonata meet two weeks after the Fall Formal and five months before the Battle of the Bands. Some artistic liberties with the Rainbow Rocks movie have been taken, but with caution to keep close to the original plot, and so this story is rife with movie SPOILERS for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.
