Another new year is here. That means lots of new beginnings, looking forward, etc. All those platitudes and cliches we've come to know and possibly tolerate. But just as important as looking to the future, perhaps even more important, is examining the past. Learning from our mistakes and critiquing our own work is crucial if we want to grow as writers (and as people).
I could start this blog with a long, rambling monologue about what lead to the state of Not All Who Wander Are Lost. Its odd birth, its unfortunate comatose state, long detailed explanations why the fic essentially died so long ago. I'm not going to waste all of your time with that. If you have questions, I'll try to answer them in the comments, but that's not the point of this blog. Instead, I'm going to keep this brief and give the basic information. Welcome back readers! Yes, I decided to bump Monday’s usual Being a Better Writer post to Tuesday on account of Monday being the federal holiday in a number of places, including where I was. That, and it was a bit nice to have a break day.

Many moons ago, I saw all those Multi-story-spanning alternate universes rampant at the time. I thought to myself, “I could do that.” As the title of this blog series may hint, it never truly congealed into a good story, let alone multiple stories. I'm thinking about writing a story with furries in it. yes, I am a furry. But I'm new to the fandom and I have no idea if there are rules or whatever else when it comes to writing. Do I use certain vocabulary? Like say, when I write Pony fiction, I write "Somepony" or "Anypony" do I do something like that when writing something with furries? Do I use names that sound a lot like animal names or normal names? I have many more questions so if somebody who's a furry could be so kind to educate me,

Outside the Jinglemas, I was part of a smaller secret Santa exchange. Which means I also wrote this story for Monochromatic. Well known RariTwi shipper isn't satisfied with her two faves, had to get greedy and throw in a third. Now, you might think that it's actually 50% more shipping, but a ship between two people creates one relationship. A three way ship is *three* relationships! This is, mathematically, 300% more ship for your ship.
Usually, as a writer, giving characters motivation for why they act the way they do or do things the way they do is very important. But in this specific instance, I found it more realistic to not have it. This was my response:

So, for the past while, I've been asking various questions to various people about countries from East and Southeast Asia. It all started when I thought to myself, "Hey, Japan is pretty cool!" And it just divulged and diverged from there. Now there are several countries in and around East Asia that I cultivate an interest in, including China, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Vietnam. And by far—by far—the thing I love the most about them would be to learn their languages.
