Hey all! I'm kinda surprised that there hasn't been a thread like this created yet. What I think would be nice to have is a collection of humanized stories that people really enjoyed. I figure what we could do is in this thread, talk about a fic that's not your own work that you really enjoyed, and give a reason for it. I figure with this many members in the group, we'll find some real gems that might have otherwise gone unnoticed. (Or, if you're mad about a well-known humanized fic, draw even more people to it, haha.)

I'll start with one written by Y1 called A Long Journey. I've been digging it due to several reasons: Long, meaty chapters, well defined characters, and it's unique approach being the key reasons. The biggest one, though, is the fact that it's not a second person self-insert. It's not a school fic. It's not just plain smut. It's an actual story with plenty of drama and intrigue. If that sounds up your alley, take a look!

I fucking love Ponyville University by SleeplessBrony. I know it's really popular, so maybe giving it a plug is a bit of a cop-out, but I really like it, so whatever.
The chapters are all a perfect length and don't wear out their welcome, and while it's only from two POV's, you really understand the characters pretty well by the end. Plus, he re-imagined Ponyville as a college town pretty damn successfully.

I recommend Ponyville Days which is a good romance

or Tartarus high, which would be 10 times better if the author would finally write the last chapter

For all you FlutterCord shippers, I recommend Chaotic Love by Mr101.

It's a more longer and thought out take on Keep Calm And Flutter On. All the ways Discord interacts with the Main 6 and his alter-ego, "Silver Tongue" are very well executed.

All in all, a fantastic story, filled with romance, comedy, drama and changelings.

My 'read later' list just keeps on growing and that's wonderful. Especially when it's humanized stories.

My Little Mages by Yondy is pretty darn great, and reasonably popular. I'd also recommend The Laughing Shadow by Merc the Jerk, but that's your fic anyway, so this is more for the people that stumble across your thread anyway.

Oh man, it's been ages since I updated that. Thanks for recommending it, but you should know that it's one of several fics I'm working on. Because of that the next chapter is only four thousand words done, and I honestly have no idea when I'm going to get back to it. Sorry. I really do plan on working on that fic one day, but for now I'm prioritizing my other stuff.

I'd recommend Anything but Textbook by CircaCloud9 . It's a nice university based story that somehow struck a chord for me when I read it a long time ago. It's cute and well-written with humor and convincing humanization. The characters don't feel interchangeable with their pony counterparts and there feels like a good reason behind it. It is also in dire need of an update and I am hoping that a sudden surge of views/favs will motivate the author to write something more. If it doesn't, at least there will be more people to share the misery with.

And I'm stoked you liked it! I read the first two chapters of The Laughing Shadow ages ago and really liked it. Now that I remember the title, I can actually finish it!

I've got one. It's not on FIMFiction, but it's very dear to me. It wasn't my "inspiration," per se, in terms of ideas, but it's what made me decide that I was capable of writing. It was my encouragement. This story made me realize that writers are human, not gods I could never hope to match. It made me realize "Hey, they can. Why can't I?"

ugh, romance, highschool, self insert, the worst things in Humanized FiM stories.
Now I really wish the author of that Touhou crossover would post it here. The FiM world becomes Human because of Yukari's meddling and things get only interesting from there. Much better than stupid romance stories that are as flat you could build a parking lot there.

Not all humanized romance fics are bad, old sport. It's mainly the ones with OC's as protagonists that raise issues with me.

I believe CyberFire as a very good read. It begins slowly, and it has rather lengthy chapters, but also with a large over-arching theme that spans the entirety of the story. It isn't finished, and it will have you wanting more every chapter you read!
