Midnight Sparkle, Twilight Sparkle's distant ancestor, wakes up one morning to find that she's traveled forward in time several hundred years. Now she must try to get home while enduring an Equestria that is nothing like the one she knows.

That, and a ten year old with a fondness for painting animal skulls pink living with her great-great-great-great-great-great-great... etc. granddaughter poses some unique challenges of its own, even if there are those around Ponyville who are willing to become her friends.

When Celestia comes to Ponyville for a visit on some royal business, she bumps into an excited and adorable little unicorn looking for a Princess to be at her tea party. Celestia, always working all the time, decides to relax and play along, letting old memories from her past be reborn.

Ponyville has become a very different place. While it is still slow and peaceful, ponies have come to realize Twilight Sparkle's regal status, and have flocked to the small town. Since then, it has expanded into a small city with its own guard force, with Rainbow dash acting as captain of the small group of soldiers. Everything is normal, at least until a group of illegal Changelings is found and it is revealed that one of Rainbow's friends may not be what they seem...

Weather patrol is simple busy work to keep most ponies thinking she's occupied, Ponyville but a playground she moonlights while doing her real work in Canterlot and her voice a long time practised front to hide a most ear-catching accent. Behind the swagger is almost literally twice the mare; one the would-be Wonderbolt Ponyville knows and loves and the other an already more than successful celebrity many in Equestria's fashion world would willingly worship the ground she walks on. Today however she comes clean to the one friend she feels she can trust with her double life, prepared to face the price in questions she will have to pay. For tonight she tells Twilight Sparkle she is the one and only Photo Finish.
