2984. Roughly 500 years after Earth was consumed by nuclear winter, humanity has spread upwards into the sky. With a massive fleet of space craft led by the massive capital ship 'Motherwill', mankind combs the galaxy in search of much needed resources. Scout 2nd Class Jack Callahan is a pilot tasked with searching sectors far flung from the fleet in the hopes of finding raw materials. He finds more than he bargained for when he crashes into a planet that not only holds water, but a sentient race of horses. Now, Jack needs to figure out how to communicate with the strange creatures, repair his ship, and contact Motherwill before he's left behind.

You used to be something.

You'd think that being trapped in stone would mean that, if nothing else, I could get some peace and quiet. Unfortunately, it seems that Celestia has other ideas.

She has appointed these ponies... these 'Keepers', as she calls them, to keep me entertained during my incarceration.

Honestly? I'd prefer the boredom.

In the war against King Sombra, a young mare realizes who she is. Not a war hero. Not a savior. She won't go down in history. In the grand scheme of things, she will be remembered by a tally on the wall.

This is her story. Her reckoning. She won't be a memory. She will be a statistic.

Soldiers don't just stand there, blindly following orders and throwing their lives away. Sure, some of them do, but they aren't the ones who come back. The ones who come back have spent hours, days in the trenches, waiting for that brief moment of terrible and bloody action. And thinking.

You have a lot of time to think, in a hole in the ground waiting to kill or be killed.

There aren't any trenches in the Crystal War. Sombra throws his soldiers in wave after wave at the enemy, and the bodies of those soldiers only rest when there is nothing left to fight and their master is briefly perplexed about where all the squishy targets went. The Equestrians aren't much better, retreating to tents and clouds and once in a glorious while, maybe a cave. But even without the trench, there is time to think.

And when you might die tomorrow, you don't think in silence. You talk. You ask questions.

They aren't all easy questions.
