Long ago Princess Luna managed to contain King Sombra in the icy tundra of the north. But he is awake and seeking vengeance. Princess Celestia wants him destroyed, Twilight thinks he can be redeemed and Luna is torn between what used to be her lover now transformed into a corrupted Tyrant hell bent on dominating the land.

When she left the Crystal Empire she had one simple task: "Get the Crystal Heart back!" So why is she freezing in the middle of nowhere trying to figure out how to read a thousand-year-old map which is being held together by a duct-tape and why in the world is she travelling with her worst nightmare?

Who knew she will miss these boring days she spent sitting on her throne in the castle listening to numerous complaints of her loyal subjects?

This story does not follow comic universe , which means Sombra's backstory is not the same as in the comics.
It also contains an alicorn OC, but the story won't focus on her too much, a few other OCs that serve as background characters and a spoiler for season 6.

Princess Luna has a problem. Her elder sister is nowhere to be found, and it's almost time to raise the sun! The clues in her room point to one obvious conclusion, but in her sister's absence, Luna must assume her duties. The night princess can think of but one pony perfect for the task of tracking down her sister: her most faithful student.

(I know some folks have been wanting a Celestia chapter of my fic 'A Pony Walks into a Bar', so think of this as kind of a spiritual successor to that hypothetical chapter.)

Setting her sights on Equus as her next conquest, Maleficent, mistress of all evil, frees the dreaded king Sombra. Renewed and wielding a new power—and with a growing army of Heartless at his command— Sombra and Maleficent work to bring darkness to Equestria and eventually the whole world. But the ponies will not face this threat alone.

Yen Sid, sensing the evil that seeks to consume this peaceful land, enlists the help of two keybearers to travel to this new world and stop the Heartless before the world is lost to them.

Sombra's influence was dispelled upon the returning days of the Crystal Empire, but only his essence. Far be it from him to give up after only one attempt. If the straight approach would not work, then by another mean.

She has since moved on from it, pushing that part of her life away. Now, just when things have once again settled down in her life, fate once again rips her home away from her.

Now, she has only one mission. Labeled a traitor by those who work for their own gain and on the run from a tyrant, she must complete her task, lest she let the memories of her loved ones be trampled on.

Her name is Esdeath.

And she will return to her homeland one day.

Today, she secures it's future.

After a night of scouring the Northern Districts, AKA the Crystal Empire, the girls return to the hotel for the night. However, when they see that Pinkie isn't there, they go on a search to the place she said she'd be at: the dance she was catering. But, when they get there, they not only find Pinkie, but their old chemistry professor, Mr.Sombra! Wait a second, are they hugging? And is that an engagement ring?!

When Halloween rolls around and Pinkie gets into the holiday spirit, Sombra ends up having to get involved. That includes dressing up.

Luna feels depressed. Celestia is trying to figure out why but nothing's working. But it wasn't until one night, a specific evil unicorn shows up in her room. He takes her to a world unimaginable, Luna's dreams. He starts to realize that he loves Luna, despite the fact she was dating Big Mac. It was hard to believe that somepony evil loves someone who retired to evil. It's up to Discord to help these two realize they're true love.

Rarity orders a collection of gems from the crystal empire to give her new designs that little bit extra. Included in the shipment is a magnificent ruby that is far more than what it seems. After the gem reveals that it has inherent magical properties, Rarity and the rest of the Elements of Harmony are pulled into an adventure complete with living mannequins, the Mirror Pool, life and death struggles in the Crystal Empire, and a budding romance between two of the most unlikely of ponies.
