In a world of brass and steam, Twilight Sparkle had thought she had made a life-changing discovery with the invention of the telescope. For better or worse, she was correct.

Now her discovery has not only changed her life, but the lives of those she seeks out in her desperate attempt to contact the only other creature as lonely as Twilight herself.

It all would have been much simpler, but it had to be the one Twilight could only call The Mare on the Moon.

When something so monumentally destructive and life-changing occurs, and dreams, hopes, even ponies' lives are thrown into turmoil, where can solace be found? When somepony's entire world comes crumbling around them, who can they turn to for support? What can they do when everything they once had is shattered?

Apple Bloom has always been taught to do what’s right; by her sister, her brother, and her granny. She works hard to complete her chores, does her school work, and goes crusading with her friends. Even when dealing with the taunting from the local bullies, she tries to keep her distance and avoid conflict; after all, it’s the right thing to do. But when she overhears a private moment by somepony she should by all rights despise, she learns that doing the right thing can be harder than it seems.

Scootaloo watches the world from a cage made of her own fears, hoping for somepony to come set her free.

It had been a year since Twilight had heard of anything from Trixie after the Alicorn Amulet incident. Unexpectedly, she receives a letter saying that her so called "rival" has tragically died and is requested to be at her funeral.
