What if Princess Luna was an alicorn spirit..?

Into the Everfree of Fireflies' Light tells the story of a young filly named Twilight Sparkle and her friendship with Luna, a strange pony with its fake look, who she meets at a young age in a forest near her big brother's home. Twilight learns that her friend is very fragile and that touching Luna will cause her to disappear forever. Twilight returns every summer to spend time with Luna, and their relationship matures as both struggle with its limitations. 

This story is a crossover of a beautiful manga/anime Hotarubi no Mori e, written by Yuki Midorikawa. All of the credit goes to her.

Failing once in her attempt to take Canterlot and failing again in her attempt to take down Twilight, one would think Chrysalis would have cut her losses and let things be, but the queen has once again appeared, this time in broad daylight with no disguise and no army. Her weapon of choice? Diplomacy.

Now Twilight is having to deal with the changeling queen, but surely putting up with her antics will be worth the knowledge she's willing to provide about her mysterious race and the potential undiscovered agents still within their midst...right?

Takes place before Magical Mystery Cure and diverges from there.

Princess Luna has been agonizing over the best birthday gift for Twilight Sparkle. Running out of time and short on ideas, she turns to Twilight's friends for suggestions.

As it turns out, that was a mistake.

Fortunately, everypony involved will survive the experience (mostly) unscathed.

Nightmare Moon has returned once again, her goal?

She wishes to be forgiven but forgiveness is not easily given when you tried to bring about eternal night. Now she finds herself in a clearing on a beautiful night crying and lonely.

Rarity's model/marefriend tries to get her to take a break, kissing turns out to be very effective.

Dash and Flutters have been friends ever since they were fillies. But being a special somepony was something completely new. But here they were, one year of being together. So both of them prepare for the big event. After all, love is a beautiful thing.

Rarity tries to make the ultimate sacrifice for love.

Too bad Twilight doesn't believe in no-win scenarios.

It was supposed to be amazing, her brother and foalsitter would marry, parties would be had, her and her friends would laugh and joke, and everyone would have a good time.

That was before Twilight was cast out of the wedding.

Now as changelings fill the skies and everyone runs in panic with no help in sight, she remembers a room, deep in the heart of the castle, with just the thing to stop the changelings. The only problem:

Does she want to? Is the price too much, or does she even care?

After all, didn't her teacher say she had a lot to think about?
