I've visited Equestria Daily a few times, and found most of what they had there was links back to fimfiction.org. Is there something there I've missed seeing, that makes them special in some way?

Back in the day, they were the hub for people wanting to find new pony stories to read. Also they had very high standards for listing a story (or at least very complicated ones, some of their decisions about what to accept and what to reject I find highly dubious, but that's another discussion entirely) so getting in was difficult and doing so was seen as a sign you'd really made it as an author. These days I don't think there are many people left using them as their primary way to find new quality stories, so it's no longer the way to get tons of extra views and attention, but it's still seen as an honor for them to accept your story.
