Site Post » Third Fimfiction.net Online Panel · 7:42am Jan 7th, 2013
Yes! It's happening again, and we have new victims guests!
To remind everyone how this works: Post your questions to the panelists here in this blog-post. They will pick questions to answer out of here, or you can skip doing that and try asking during the livestream... but you risk the question being ignored or lost in all the comments. And trust me, there's a lot of comments going on!
The Panel will take place at 3PM EST on the 20th of January (Sunday) at: Alexstrazsa's Livestream
Anyway, our guests:
At two in the morning?
Edit: This seems very promising and worth a lot of people's time.
that feeling you get when you can not ask a good question because you are bland and uncreative.
When does the walrus steak?
686258 Pretty much this.
How much world-building is the right amount of world-building?
686263 Okay... subject to change. But, you know, that's... 2PM in Mexico, 12PM in California and so on and so forth. We'll see.
Sunday the 20th, huh. I may be able to attend this one.
Finally, I may be able to actually attend one of these things. I've always been away at the time it's on.
686272 It`s 4 am in here XD
Ssshhh! Do you want everybody to know!?
To: Capn Chryssalid
What kind of music you hear while creating the figthing parts of Platinum Crown
686260
Does a match box?
Now there's a line-up! Definitely tuning in
I'd ask a question directed at Aegis Shield, but it would just be blisteringly sarcastic and mocking. Oh well.
The more I look at the line-up, the more I wonder how he even managed to get on there in the first place. You've got the authors of Flight of the Alicorn and This Platinum Crown, and then... him? Really?
There's other authors more deserving of it than him.
686280 Wrong answer; try again
686286
What was the answer to question 2?
Oh, can't miss that one! Now I just to think of a good question or two...
Cool, I'll be able to be around this time.
What do you all do when having writer's block?
To Aegis Shield: Your many stories have many different ideas. How did you decide which idea to write first?
Why exactly did you change Tough Love's ending that way?
686285 I want to give you more than one upvote, but I can not do that ;_;
How do you go about your writing process? Do you get the idea down linearly(a la normal people) or do you do in bits and pieces, waiting to see the whole thing come together(a la Kurt Cobain)? Do you power write it, or do you take your time? Do you listen to music while writing? If so, what types?
Inb4 Regidar was actually serious oh god the world is ending
686285 I concur to the fullest. It's more of Aegis's attitude that gets me down. He is not a god amongst writers like he tries to sell himself as.
I know that's hypocritical of me to say, because I have my own church, implying that I would think of myself as a god, but it's more of an ironic thing.
Names. How did you pick them?
Do you feel that there is a way to increase the populatiry of OC's?
I understand that too many authers use an OC as a means to self insert, and this is the root of why a story with OC's become avoided like the plague. However, there are plenty that do not. Is there anything you see one can do to help this stigma, or are authors that choose to make an OC choosing to have a large portion of the community shun their works simply off the basis of building a character from the ground up?
Aegis: WHO ARE YOU? You're the third most watched person on Fimfiction (at the time of this writing) and I've never hard anything about you! Where did you come from and how do you stay hidden with that much popularity?
I actually enjoyed Aegis' Spartan Stallion story. But damn I cant come up with questions. Even if i come up with one I would not be able to see the answer due to not having a computer with internet to watch the live stream. ( I do everything on here with my phone.)
General questions
How will the site change in the foreseeable future?
and
Do you think there may be another "Error 504" incident?
and
In general, What inspired you to be a writer? besides the obvious Pony affiliation of course.

Let me follow up on this guy's question:
You all appear to have done a fair share of OC-crafting in your time, what with Windfall and Khufu from Alicorn and Ritterkreuz and Euporie/Eunomie from Crown and Spartan Shield from Spartan. I've generally enjoyed the characters you've created and find them to fit well with the tone of the worlds you're building. When you're developing an original character, what sort of approaches do you apply? Do you think of the character's relevance to the plot first and foremost? Do you think of them in terms of foils to characters from the show? Or do you come up with characters that interest you and then try to come up with situations where they would show up? I understand that all of these are probably used to some extent, but if you can specify the differences in approach between the ones you have created, that might be interesting.
I already know you're in agreement with me on this, D, but why isn't there more Gilda clop?
At Aegis Shield: Why did you discontinue the Seeing The Pattern series?
At Aegis: You do realize that you could write anything by now, and have it featured, right? I mean, you could probably write the most meta-fic out there... How does this make you feel?
Edit: What are your opinions of the Staff that manages this site? Seems like a boring question, but, I'd like to know. (Don't lie, either.)

Thankfully, 'God' is 'gay', right?
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
... Or, alternatively, got any favourite authors?
What makes a story seemed 'rushed' and how do you fix this? Pacing is quite a demon for me, what do you consider good pacing?
That sure is a lineup of authors :D
686269 All of the world-building, obviously.
Who is waifu, for all three of you?
Capn Chryssalid: I've been following you for years now (CREEPY STALKER) and you've produced... jeez a few million words of fanfiction by now, and I've wondered how you are able to budget your time so that you can produce this stuff. Do you set aside a specific time to get writing done? Also, you have your hands involved in more than just the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fandom so I was curious how difficult it is for you to bounce from one series to another. How do you balance so many different sets of characters and themes (and not go crazy)? Wanderer D could chime in on that one since he's spread out between FiM, Pokemon and Ranma 1/2.
By the way Capn Chryssalid, thank you for getting me involved in the fanfiction side of the fandom. Reading "World of Ponycraft" is what convinced me to look into other stories and try writing my own things for MLP:FiM. I haven't felt so involved with another community in my life.
All the authors: Have any of you thought of professional writing? I know Ponydora Prancypants has dabbled with the not-for-profit "Flight of the Alicorn" book release and wanted to know if fanfiction has sparked any desire to "ascend" to the publishing world.
Looking forward to hearing all of you on the 20th!
OMIGOSH Three out of four of my favorite authors!
Well, in case the introduction won't be the same as on the second panel:
Prancypants, what's your favorite spirit, and do those affect your writing in any way?
Awesome! I know all three of them! XD Now, questions...
For all of you:
1. If you were stuck on an island, and could only have one restaurant magically appear and always be fully stocked with prepared food (aka no other people to talk to), what would it be?
2. What is best pony accessory and/or meme? (aka socks, cowpony hats, etc.)
3. What is the hardest thing for each of you to do while writing, and how do you try to counter that? (aka detail, pacing, etc. Whatever you all consider to be the 'hardest' part of writing well.)
To any of you who can be bothered to read this:
How did you discover fanfiction, and how did you get into it?
...those nearly mean exactly the same thing.
This would probably be best as the last question, but...
To all of you,
Who would you choose for the next panel, and why?
URL plox.
What kinds of cars do you all drive, and what kinds do you WANT to drive? These questions are for judgment, as I am a massive car guy.
Also, which pony would you most want to meet? to cuddle with? to hang out with for a day? (mine for all of those--> )

Metafics are against site rules.

Your avatar...
@ Aegis - So, the Spartan Stallion was fairly good, I'll give you that. But, from there on out, you've written a fiction that you ended up not delivering on and instead dropped it in favor of your 'Luna's Stallion', or whatever the series is named. No offense at this point, but since then you have not really written anything that truly stands out, yet everything gets featured? How does it feel, knowing that you single-handedly confirm the 'sheep theory'; that folks will stick with something even when it loses its quality?
Reading Aegis' work is the equivalent to drinking a pan galactic gargle blaster and has the usefulness of removing a babel fish from your brain.
Do you have dreams?
Because we need at least one stupid question, I'll go ahead and ask them to all three of you.
What... is your name?
What... is your quest?
What... is a typical day in your life like?
To Cap'n_Chryssalid:
Big fan here. When you wrote The Best Night Ever, what inspired you to integrate music so deeply into the story? I'm referring not only to "Equestria Girls" playing as Blueblood wakes up each morning, but also to the recommended music you list in author's notes throughout the story, and also to your choice of having the ponies literally singing the gala song in unison, rather than treating that as existing only in the television medium, and not in the "reality" of your story?
One of my favorite things about The Best Night Ever is your use of humor throughout the story. I still feel it is one of the funniest fanfictions on this site, and it makes me chuckle out loud every time I re-read it. Did you feel it was important to keep a lighthearted tone in order to avoid the story feeling weighty and melodramatic? Was it a challenge to tie your more serious adventure epic This Platinum Crown into the more humorous Best Night? I recall you wrote a special chapter to tie the two stories together, which you posted after Platinum Crown was already in progress.
Finally, I understand you are a busy professional, like some other authors on this site. What keeps you writing ponyfiction, week after week?
