Wow. This story really gives you no context beforehand, and just throws stuff at you. Even if this doesn't win, this is still a big favorite of mine, the effects drugs could have on a person, and how it can ruin their lives, even going as far to affect Flurry! I like this a lot

Flurry Heart’s cries – for, surely, there would have been cries – had gone unnoticed. Her eye had bled so much that her blankets had crusted. She was shaking without much sound, as though in a trance, while her father rushed her to hospital. As Shining Armor sat in the waiting room to hear whether there’d be permanent damage, he couldn’t stop thinking about the bowl he’d smoke the moment he got home.

I probably missed it. But what the hell caused that to Flurry? And where is Foal Protective Services when you need them?
