Hmm... interesting. Though I'd have gone with something less like the Root of Honesty's Power. Spike could reproduce the end result of this Power quite easily. Laughter also has similarity to Honesty. Now, if they were intended to be easier controlled but weaker variants, I will understand.
The possibilities are endless...
Am I the only one to think these Roots of Harmony should be kept hidden at all cost? They seem like a sure fire power to cause a disaster anywhere.
I think this is related to the idea you described, but increases flexibility in storytelling: The Root of Generosity does mark a specific pony, but that pony is only able to tell others about its power. No Root Wielder can use Generosity, but anyone else can use it once with some kind of special phrase, after the Generosity Wielder tells them what the phrase is. To use the power, the pony (or other creature) must feel they lose something while, at one point in time [so they can't give something permanent like another Root Power], giving something to the recipient that the giver sincerely believes they would want. These are, of course, mental states that might be influenced by any of the other Roots.
I think this one would be most effectively used by Trixie.
