You didn't really mix up the formula, you did what some other Displaced writers did before: Give their character extra powers to start with to make the character extra prepared or overpowered. Honestly, Thresh's passive alone would have been a great asset to the main character in the long run as every time he kills, or someone dies near him, he gains a soul, allowing his AP and Defense to raise. In short, it'd likely make him a very powerful and tanky mage in the future.
