When Princess Twilight Sparkle seeks to modernize Equestria, one of her first targets was the Equestrian rail network. Seemingly overnight, most lines were nationalized, the out of date steam locomotives were abolished and replaced by diesels and electrics, and unwanted lines were being ripped up left and right.
In a time where sentimentality could not stand in the way of progress, two colts will take it into their hooves to save an old line and keep its hundred ton secret safe from the scrappers torch. But they will soon learn that running a preserved railway is much more difficult than simply clearing the weeds and running trains.
With time of the essence and the scrappers torch an ever looming threat, hop aboard for an express run to adventure!
This story has received a complete overhaul, promising better storytelling, better character arcs, and more accurate railway practices!

A ban on steam traction was done by the British government for a time in 1968-1971, I’ll be honest in saying that I based the Equestria United Railways off British Railways, which was nationalized in 1948. But the sudden shift from steam to diesel, nationalization, and closures of branchlines are all deep seated in events that occurred in America (sans nationalization) and Britain in the Post-WWII era
Though I will add, while the E.U.R is based on BR, unlike the latter, the E.U.R is managed well and actually works efficiently and successfully

One of the reasons for the rewrite was because some chapters were shorter than my liking, but I plan to try and keep a 2000 word minimum when I can for chapters, and I’m glad your enjoying it!

Anyways great chapter I do hope you keep the same sorta premise regarding how twilight comes to approve of them keeping the steam engine like you did before the rewrite. Was quite a fun read that chapter all though I’m certain whatever you do it’ll still be quite an enjoyable and fun to read scene.
