"When the buckled girder lets down the grinding span, the blame of loss, or murder, is laid upon the man." - Julia Ecklar & Leslie Fish

T

I have grown to expect the unexpected. On the Island of Sodor, the absurd and supernatural are considered normal. Ghosts of engines and spiteful brake vans, mythical creatures causing all manner of hell on the Skarloey Railway, a potentially rabid dog putting Sodor in the center of a political conflict, and much, much more. Sounds almost exciting, doesn't it?

What I, Edward of the North Western Railway, never expected, not in my entire life, was appearing in a different world where humans have been replaced with ponies, not to mention the fantasy aspects involved.

If I told you that I had experienced stuff even more absurd than that, would you believe me?

I am confused, was the explosion a hallucination Edward had?

The story said Sir Topham was considering a Nuclear Plant, not that one was built...

Also, why Sodor Fallout?

I'm Edward. A mixed-traffic 4-4-0 tender engine built in 1891 for the Furness Railway. I have a blue coat of paint with three red stripes on my boiler and a yellow number 2 on my tender.

Edward was built in 1896, not 1891.

"Yes, Edward. Seventeen months," another man said as he came into view. He was my driver, Thomas Eric Galindes.

Edward's crew are called Charlie Sands and Sidney Hever.

"Yes, that is to be expected," a new voice said. Ahead, I saw a crimson red non-faceless engine exactly like myself slowly puffing towards me on an adjacent track. A 4-4-0 with the letters "F.R." on his tender. It was Mickey. Sodor's Fire and Rescue engine.

I assume this character is an OC.

As we went over the Preston Incline, or "Gordon's Hill", Topham and Thomas - my driver - filled me in on a few things that had happened over Sodor. Namely, not much. Topham had brought in another engine to do my work, and Thomas had apparently dated a woman for a few months before breaking up since she was a complete freeloader. The most notable thing that happened was that Topham was thinking about ordering for a nuclear power plant to be built.

The real name of Gordon's Hill is Marron's Bank.

"Though privately owned, they're expensive," Topham began. "Not to mention their pollution. Having a central power plant able to supply the entire island with electricity would reduce costs for both the island and the railway."

Sodor only has a single power station, a hydroelectric plant built near Peel Godred to power both the steelworks and the electrified Peel Godred line. Sodor's power grid is covered by this station, with any extra power chanelled from Heysham power station in Lancashire.

And then the ending turns into Sodor Fallout.

Mickey is indeed an OC, he is from Victor Tanzig's Stories of Sodor I believe.

Many of the things you mentioned, including the name of Edward's driver, are from the series I think, so this may be set there, rather than RWS or TVS.

11192211
I'm not that familiar with Tanzig's work, I'll admit

11192186
The OC is probably from the YouTube series “Stories of Sodor.”

11192234
Indeed. That series is amazing. So amazing that I honestly prefer it over the main show.

Hence why this story's Sodor will follow that series' Sodor.

Also I should have known you'd comment. I REALLY should have known you'd comment.

11192161
Because why not? It's a good fic. And I couldn't think of any other good ways of getting Edward and his driver to Equestria.

11192245
Apologies. Not familiar with SoS.

11192258
It's alright. I wrote this knowing little to nobody would know it, hence why I'll be giving quick descriptions of the less-than-obvious characters.

Well done on your horse words

Have a muffin

Why is it that I hear victor tanzig whenever Edward is talking?

11192349
Because that is the exact voice I hear when writing him. It's amazing now that I know others hear the same voice. That tells me I've done a fine job writing him.

11192254
Makes sense, but that doesn't answer the other question. Was there really an explosion, or was Edward hearing and seeing things?

There's an upcoming mini series that will involve the SCP.

I honestly like that this story follows the genera of Victor Tanzig's series.

Did I see a few references to victor tanzigs stories of Sodor and Sodor fallout here?

11196054
XD still keep it up man cause I am hooked

11196067
A lot of people seem to be! And I LOVE IT! Never thought it would gain this much traction!

I guess this is a story for another day

If you didn't name drop Victor Tanzig, I 'd swear you were him.

I'm really enjoying the way this story is going.

Good story ^^ but Fluttershy have green eye

I know, I know. I have no excuse. The part should have been out days ago.

Holy crap it's been over a week...

I took in a deep breath. That was surprising. I only met City of Truro once many years ago. It was an engine that had allegedly achieved 100 miles per hour back in 1904. It was in fact one of three contenders for the first steam locomotives to break the magical barrier. The other two were Flying Scotsman or 'Scot', the first locomotive to achieve a recorded 100MPH, and the second was a 4-4-0 owned by New York Central over in the United States numbered 999 that supposedly broke it way back in 1893.

Scotsman's 100mph run has actually been disqualified as the dynamometer car was incorrectly calibrated. The highest speed the engine achieved on the run was 96mph. It would actually be impossible for both 3440 and 999 to achieve 100mph as that would require more steam than the boiler could produce.

Glad to see this is back. It's rare, if it even exists, to see a Thomas in Equestria story that actually has the character stay as an engine. It's refreshing.

Will Benson from the Railway Operating Division be appearing in Equestria?

11213226
I KNOW RIGHT? Angers me to no end. And yeah, you are more than likely correct on how there are no other TTTE x MLP stories that have the engine staying as an engine. It sucks.

11213288
That officious prat? I've toyed with the idea of him coming to Equestria. Perhaps I'll create a side-story involving him as a "What if" scenario if I feel up to it.

11213761
The same also applies to one of the ponies going to Sodor and becoming engines. That annoys me even more than engines not staying engines. The few I have seen of the former aren't very good.
