Sunset and the rest of the EqG girls go to an exhibit on an ancient culture. But one artifact in particular draws Sunset's attention.

A short, weird little idea. I meant for it to just be a blog post, but it ballooned so long that I thought, eh, might as well make it a full story. Hope you enjoy!

Woah, I really do enjoy this! Everyone is in-character—Twilight's cold and kinda detatched—while Sunset's new power/attitude has effected how she sees everything, including tiny mummies. I really loved the unresolved conflict at the end, of how Sunset wished her own copy could have thrived in her own world, rather than just died, and she feels bad for have made it. Very touching and bittersweet. Good job! An interesting concept that was executed expertly.

So...Sunset is the reincarnation of a long-dead mummy princess? Duuuude.

Wait, isn't there any way to revive other mummies in Equestria, then?

Okay this was a very interesting read and I'd like to see more of it. Could be a great springboard for reincarnated enemies and the like

"Reincarnation," kinda. "Resurrection" would be the word I'd use. Celestia literally revivified the princess' body. Basically, it was like a super-coma. [EDIT: As to your other question... ehhh? If they were wrapped up properly, and the "mystic spark" was kept alive. I would assume most of the rulers died first, though.]

Also, while Sunset did completely forget her past life, I can't help but see a little bit of the "Egyptian princess/pharaoh" archetype in the way she acted in the first movie. :twilightsheepish:

In any case, this isn't my only headcanon for where Sunset's EqG doppelganger is. I wanted to do one inspired by "Her Story," where Sunset's twin basically lurks and lets Sunset have the exciting life. While writing this one, I had an idea for a story where this world's Sunset died (in a car accident, say), and her parents took Sunset in. (Man, saying all these Sunsets is confusing. :applejackconfused: In that first idea, they called each other Winter and Autumn, which had thematic meaning in the story.) No matter what the case may be, I kinda hope the show writers eventually reveal what happened to human!Sunset. SciTwi is arguably one of the best parts of the Equestria Girls lineup, imo.

Can any other Equestrian mummies be resurrected like that?

And how will this affect her going forward? Since she's actual royalty, can she reclaim her title or get some kind of power or something?

9017241
Probably not, and probably not. :derpytongue2: Even if she could claim some kind of royalty (which she couldn't; what claim she might have would have dissolved when Somnambula joined the Equestria... conglomerate... thing), she doesn't live in Equestria anymore, so it's a bit of a moot point. As to whether there are any other mummies to resurrect... I'll leave that to other writers. :raritywink:

9017266
So why was she resurrectable but others aren't?

9017269
This is why I shouldn't throw together random ideas into a story slurry in two hours. My worldbuilding always comes out half-baked. :raritydespair:

The idea was, what made her resurrectable was that she was mummified alive, and the mummification ritual preserved a portion of her consciousness, her "Sunset"-ness. When ponies die, their entire essence snuffs out (or goes to the Forever Home, or whatever the pony's personal belief is :scootangel:), but a mummy like that has a little bit left to bring back. Now, did some of the previous pharaohs ask to be mummified before death, in order to preserve their mystic spark? That's up to you.

Tl;dr:

Ri2

Oh, I see.

Still, now I wonder if she'll try to embrace her heritage somehow.

this is nice
now time for bed

Unsettling. Abrupt. Enjoyable, despite feeling somewhat arbitrary.

9018339
Oh, it absolutely is arbitrary. I don't entirely remember how I came up with the idea. But whenever I do one of these "contemplations," I just kinda churn out the idea and see how it lands. Glad you enjoyed it, though!

Definrtely interesting story.

“Nope! I know a ton about rocks!” Pinkie puffed out her chest, clearly very proud of herself. “My family lives on a rock farm southeast of here.”

So, they're in Fillydelphia, so that means Pinkie's family lives in New Jersey. That explains so much!
