Leave your headcanons at the door.

T

Garnet Graphite, alicorn Prince of Equestria, lives in Ponyville by himself. He lives life day-to-day without any further ambition beyond conquering his personal issues. One day, he sees a performance of the Pony-Tones, and starts crushing on Fluttershy. Garnet decides to ask her out on a date.

This would be significantly easier if he weren't even more socially crippled than Fluttershy herself.

Written for the 15th F*** This Prompt Contest: "A red-and-black alicorn tries to woo Fluttershy" (missed deadline)

Warning: massive amounts of cringe as this is played straight

Isn't Garnet a girl's name?

7949324 In our world, men are rarely named after gems, so yes. In MLP, it would probably be more common.

Ooooh! Rarity you are one bad mare! I can't believe that was the real Fluttershy!:pinkiehappy::pinkiegasp::rainbowlaugh:

You need to do a sequel!:pinkiehappy:

Major props, author: You took a prompt that was clearly supposed to be subverted, and then wrote a cute little romance story by playing it straight. I think that makes your piece the real subversion.

7949324 Well, I don't know if you read the actual story, but you'll see he was named Garnet Graphite after his colours. And no, while it's common to name girls after colours and gems, it's not always the case. Of course, SU having shown up blemishes that, but again, the Gems don't precisely have genders themselves.

7955359 Nah, sorry. While I'm glad you enjoyed it, it's not really something that I can plausibly think of (or have the motivation to) write for a sequel.

7956512 Ha, yeah. I got stuck on the 'tries to' part of 'tries to woo', and figured that since most OCs actually go out and flirt and (most of the time) are successful, what would be really interesting is if the OC is so socially crippled to the point he's worse than Fluttershy is.

Again, Fluttershy is the less shy of the two.

7956980 If it doesn't work out with Fluttershy (and I like that you ended it ambiguously), GG should take a run at Marble Pie.

Bahaha!! Oh my gosh, this is so fun and cute! I may have seen the twist coming, but it played perfectly anyway. Also, thank you for revealing that twist before it became a huge drama problem (which it usually does in those types).

I’m excited for chapter 2! :pinkiehappy:

The adorable factor is through the roof on this. Mind you, I normally hate any and all shipping. This is a rare exception for me. It is well developed and works. So cuuuute! :raritystarry:
