The Usurper

I write stories. One day, I'll be really, really good at it. One day.

E

There were many things Chrysalis was prepared to lose. Her hive, her children, and her crown were not amongst those things. Fleeing her old home, with no one to turn to and nowhere to feed, she stumbles across a town she didn't know existed.

From serendipity hatches an opportunity. From opportunity, progress. And perhaps, one day, even redemption. It is a long way off. There is a lot for her to confront, both in her past and future. But she has a lot of time in exile.

(Despite the image source, this story is not canon to the comics.)
(Also, as might be fairly obvious, this story takes place in the aftermath of the season six finale.)

It's already shit.

This was nice. I'm glad I awkwardly woke up at 5 AM and decided to read this.

Looking forward to more!

What explanation could there be for fangs?

One of her parents/grandparents was a Thestral/Batpony, if you need an explanation later.

Nice beginning.
I'm curious where it goes.
(This town doesn't know what it had gotten itself into...)

Now I was out of options, which meant that I had to find more options.

Makes sense to me.

I spun around instinctively, a combat spell shimmering to life at the tip of my horn, before I remembered where I was and suppressed the urge to annihilate the one who had ambushed me.

Believe it or not: Ponies for some reason don't like being annihilated.

"The world is not kind," I snarled. "A kind world wouldn't steal your happiness. A kind world wouldn't starve you and your family. And a kind world wouldn't doom your own and leave you to rot!"

Sugar Belle: "It is. Except for those Changelings. We'll kill them all."

Nice chapter.

Does this mean a Changeling Queen has to kill all other potential Queens before she becomes the ruler?

Wow, Chrysalis is a piece of work, and now we see what went into making her so. :pinkiegasp:

Now, this looks like it'll turn a profit.

"Yeah, she was the one who founded our town," Sugar said. "And mind-controlled us and stole our cutie marks, but we got over that."

Wait, was there actual mind control involved? I got the impression it was mostly cult style brainwashing, maybe mixed with the threat of magical violence, and that rather than theft, the majority of them agreed to hand-over their cutie marks, only to discover Starlight wouldn't give them back once they regretted the decision.

That is to say, most of them were desperate and from bad places and Starlight's promises sounded too sweet to ignore and they only learned what they were giving up afterwards.
