That royal guard sounded like he was dealing with depression and probably suicidal tendencies, but he was ever loyal and couldn't bear killing himself. Maybe it was a good thing he died? He was stuck in the past, his first kill forever there to keep him awake at night. He stood over the traumatizing experience. That day not only did the changeling die, but he himself as a whole as well. And when it came time for the act to play again, well we all can read what happened. His kill; torment, was his punishment, his death at the hands of the changeling queen was his requiem.
^Lol I suck at your kind of writing, im not good at making a whole actual story like this but I'm more suited to short ramblings reminiscent to it, which I occasionally write when I'm bored.

it's not hard to understand really, everything falls into place. I think most people need to read it a second time if they couldn't grasp the situation. By the way, the wedding and the fireworks part was the best. No, you're right, no he wasn't 2-D, he was something more than a generic villain, he was a broken soldier with a duty to his kingdom.

your last statement is right. The guard was caught in his memories or guilt, in the moment he became delirious. To him it was as if he was murdering the changeling all over again. In reality chrysalis overpowered him and stabbed him.

if she turns herself in: she would possibly be preventing the genocide of her people.
if she stays on the farm: she would be passing down the legacy of that land for future ponies.
then there's returning to the hive: which would start the whole deal over again.
