This is very interesting, I'd love to see a sequel to this. The ending has really left me wondering whether or not Spike can escape his situation.

I agree, usually you say that you're finished whenever someone asks for a second chapter but this doesn't seemed finished yet. In fact there's quite a bit of material here for a chapter two. Please continue Scribe!

Good writing aside, this feels unfinished. The non-ending leaves a hollow feel.

Nothing is resolved. There's not even a particular revelation it's ending on. It's alright to not do sequels but frankly this feels like half a story.
