When the Earth Ponies of Equestria ascended to the stars, they realized what many had theorized for years. They were not alone in the galaxy. It took many years for them to be accepted by the galactic community, though they have since joined the other races of universe in peace. However, a mysterious new enemy from beyond the reaches of civilized space seeks to destroy that peace. Now, the universe needs a hero to save it, and, imbued with knowledge from and ancient, lost civilization, only Commander Soarin of the Equestrian Confederation can fill those shoes.

Can't there just be a fucking story for once that doesn't put puns everywhere?

6067750 Part of the series' canon is that Equestrians name their cities with horse puns, it's part of the naming conventions for Equestrian civilization. Asking for Equestrians to not use horse puns when naming cities or places at this point would be similar to asking any other race or civilization to forgo their naming conventions such as, in Mass Effect canon, asking a turian to give their turian son a krogan or salarian name. Sure it could be done, but it would be seen as strange or weird.

6067861 Yeah yeah, I know, but It's so over used, ot to mention that authors stick as many puns as possible and It just gets extremely boring an irritating to read, and I'm sure there are plenty of other people that would agree with me

So you realize that it is a thing to do horse puns for MLP. But you get angry when fans, particularly writers, adhere to that canon rule. Interesting.

Look, it's a thing with MLP. Just like how colored ponies are a thing with MLP. Just like how reading is a thing with books. There are various exceptions here, such as the stories that take place on Earth. You have to expect as a story takes place in a Equestrian setting, that horse pun names are going to occur to be in line with the established canon that the show series has created or else it wouldn't be mlp.

Great, you're frustrated. Yes, some folks here take it a bit too far as I will attempt to explain later in this post. But you don't need to cuss out the author of a story that is trying to follow the rules created by a show they love.

XknX12, I'm not trying to chew you out here either. I understand and respect your frustrations over the matter. But we're here together as one to like, discuss, and share one thing that we all have in common. We like magical, talking, colorful ponies. We all have our differences, some of us just can't get along with each other if lives depended on it. Some like clop, others don't, and some like HiE stories while others would see them burnt to the ground. We have to figure out some way to tolerate and love each other though. Respect one another. If you are getting frustrated this badly, there is a easy solution and that is to just leave, but I urge you to not do so. I hate seeing people leave this great Fandom, especially with all of the potential they have.

To be perfectly honest with you, I thought a story called "MARE Effect" was a clopfic of everyone being turned into mares and getting it funky. I was wrong.

Mass Effect is the name of basically their way of being able to travel through space. Yes, biotics manipulate mass effect fields as well, but the name primary comes from the ability to work with element zero and engage in space travel : http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Mass_effect_field

I mean this with all due respect, but your pun on the name here does not work, unless they turn into mares to space travel. Then... yeah.

A pun does not work simply because it fits or can be placed there. It goes because it works, it still has the same meaning. For example, everyone's favorite "everypony", a play on the previous word. This isn't done because the p can be conveniently added, and the e replaced with a y. It's done because the meaning is still the same; referring to a group of individuals.

In other words, your pun placement here doesn't have the effect you hope for because the meaning is no longer the same. IMHO, I would consider changing the name. I have no idea if there is a "Mass Effect: Equestria". But it would be a good thing to consider.

Something interesting about your description there is that you point out that the "Earth Ponies of Equestria" and then have a well known pegasus fill in the role of Shepard. Personally, I would have used Shining Armor instead, gotten ride of the Earth pony there, and used just ponies or unicorns, and use alicorns as the asari. That way you could do BioWare's preferred shipping of Shepard and Liara, but with the established cannon of Shining Armor and Cadance. But that's me.

6068499 I'm not talking hating on puns that make sense, I'm hating the ones that DON'T make any sense, like the pun in the tittle of this story.

Which from your initial posts here, I could not tell that was the case, and I do apologize.

You can see later on in my post, that I get on Aslfrasle's case a bit about that as well. So in reference to your second post here, I agree with you.
