Great questions, even better answers, and man, if I were to say "shots fired" every time I read a burn in this chapter, G4M would be branded as a mercenary artillery battery and hunted down by all nations for the barrage it let loose
Twilight/Phoenix... going the mature route? Yyyyeeah, don't expect me to read that. Not touching that with a ten-meter pole. Personally, of course.
Since the Q&A chapter is out, I'm gonna assume the blog thread is outdated and obsolete by this point. So I'm just gonna post this here and hope it makes it into the next Q&A session:
5495785 Make it an RTS and you're good.
You keep it real, Real Man. Really stupid!
I'll give the feminist credit for acknowledging that mares are women too, although considering their station in the gentlemanverse, I'd say their getting off far better and far more often with gentleman. Also dogma's are a scary thing whichever side of any argument one chooses to support. This has been a public service announcement brought to you by an anonymous pony porn writer...
We are so screwed.

Harry babysitting foals: this needs to be a thing. I don't even mean that perverted, I mean it's a nice angle for a story for whoever takes up the challenge. The Gentlemanverse can do innocent stories too. If no one else does it, I will, and the last time I said that in the comments section, I ended up following through on my promise/threat.
This was a thing for a short time before the author killed the story. I do hope we see some good M/M someday. What can I say, I'm an EEO kind of Aficionado.
I hope he gets a name and a story sometime. That would be really fun!
Logic is hard! At least our question came from a polite idiot.
derpicdn.net/img/2013/7/17/376740/medium.jpg
Lots of great world-building in this chapter! I can't wait to see the HERD spin-off and of course I'll have my radiation suit ready for pre-reading the TwiWright side-story. I'll bring a lot of tea as well.
So after the break we are going to have the alien visitors come. Should be fun!
Yet another great chapter. There aren't many stories on the site that deal with the deeper parts of the human condition the way that you, and your collaborators, do here. I'm sad to see that it will take a while for the next one (I love the way you handled it in-story), but I'm certain it will be worth the wait.
You used that question twice.
5599511
Oops... fixed.
Excellent chapter! It was really fun working with you on this.
This was a really fun chapter, but I do have one question: with season 5 starting up in the late spring, May being the last I heard, will you be pausing the story in order to watch the new season in it's entirety in order to make everything match up?
5598870
I'm gonna' follow suit 'cause this chapter got me thinking.
5600664 Man, good question!
Thank you so much for letting me be a part of this! It was a lot of fun. If you ever want to collab again in the future don't hesitate to shoot me an e-mail.
Another great installment! This just keeps getting better and better!
5601160 Shame it will be awhile before the next installment. Are you as stoked for the H.E.R.D. side-story as I am?
5601007 You did an absolutely fantastic job on Nightlife. Very well done! I hope to read about him from you someday.
5600037 Thanks for bringing Honeydew Blossom back for another round. She certainly made a passionate defense of G4M!
Thanks also to DEL, for [call sign withheld] and Evening Rain. Thanks once again for creating the Gentlemanverse, and I think 2015 will see her bigger and better than ever!
And thanks of course to Firesight, for giving Stuntman a chance to shine in one of my oldest and most cherished M-rated stories.
derpicdn.net/img/2014/12/22/790461/thumb.jpg
Hey Firesight, can you make (or have commision) a side chapter for The MMA fighter and the Eagless? There not enough love for Griffons in my mind.
5598870
Thanks. That's exactly what I was going for. It wasn't all fiction, though--Five Stars spoke directly for me on more than one occasion in there.
No offense taken. I know it's not for everyone. I don't know if you've been following the Turnabout Storm novelization, but you'll get the explanation of how and why in there. I've edited most of the novelization and outright written the last third of it, adding a lot of new scenes and subplots including a TwiWright romance. Give it a try if you haven't already, and not just for that. You might be surprised at all that's been added.
In any event, I'll be sure and use your questions in the third and final Q&A, which will happen at story's end.
5598917
Her eventual visit will be the subject of the story's sequel.
Thanks for all the comments and preread assistance! Especially your running commentary over Skype. I really do appreciate it. And who knows, I converted you to the idea of TwiWright, maybe I can do so for others as well! I hope the Flower trio there isn't *too* traumatized by the thought...
5599031 5601160
Thanks! Sorry to take a break for a bit, but I've got other writing to do. Fear not, though... Five Star Service will not be forgotten. I'd just like to get some other stories out so I can get my name a bit more out there. Time to expand my horizons and my readership.
5600037 5601007
Thanks! It was lot of fun working with you guys too. You came up with some really good stuff. Collaborations don't always work that well, but this one sure did! We'll do it again later, promise!
5600356
Honestly, I don't think I will. That would force the story to wait another half-year to continue. If there's anything really notable, I'll retcon it into the existing story. In all honesty, though... you could make the argument that if Twilight opened the portal not long after she became an alicorn, then that changed the course of what happened after, making what we see in the show an alternate universe. Well, yes, this already is, but you know what I mean.
5600664
This seems to be a popular question thread now. Guess we'll have to explore it a bit more going forward and in the third and final Q&A.
5602617
It appears I'm going to have to do that now since more than one reader is asking for it. Guess I'll add it to the list of future works!
5603988
Indeed I do. I was simply wondering if we'd be forced to wait or not. Please, continue writing as is; the story is wonderful.
5603988
Most likely because no egos got in the way.
5606276
That's a compliment for and to the credit of all of us, then.
5603933 The Flower Trio have other things to worry about, namely the fact that I have an internet connection, and still more story concepts in mind.
derpicdn.net/img/view/2013/7/24/383117__safe_animated_spike_roseluck_daisy_lily_flower+wishes_lily+valley_the+cutie+pox_popcorn.gif
You'll be fine.
5606692
I'm actually surprised no one has commented on the parallels of human culture. The talk of Harmony and Herd is pretty much basically the Traditional Family Values that America seems to love. Except the family in Equestria isn't monogamous.
5607605 Well I did make a joke about the H.E.R.D. group being the "West Burro Baptist Church" to Firesight on Skype once.
You're right though, it is pretty close. The only real difference is that mares get a pass due to outnumbering the stallions, so filly-fooling is overlooked despite it producing no offspring. Part of this is practical, and part of it is likely due to most of the lawmakers being mares, and understanding mares biological needs. The majority looks after its own in every society.
The other major difference is the focus on practicality rather than religious propagation. I'm honestly much more forgiving of Equestrian Conservatism than religious fundamentalism — which exists in most religious societies and is effective in both retaining numbers and winning new recruits — because I can at least understand the very real economic and cultural devastation that humanity will bring to Equestria. The technological revolution alone will mean fewer ponies are needed to produce what it needs.
Honestly, I'm very sympathetic to the ones who want to throw the humans out. We are going to wreck that place!
5609893
I don't see that, actually. First, ponies have been around other species, and Eve has already pointed out that ponies are pretty stubborn. They are allies of the more practical Gryphon Kingdom, have traded tech with minotaurs, and even other species with their own specialties. Yet they still retained the whole Herd is Harmony culture that shockingly is traditional enough that even a thousand years, misborns are given the shitty treatment. Culturally, they have been intact for more than a thousand years, and I have rarely seen any human culture that lasted that long.
Add to the fact that Tellus has definitely more natural resources, own tech branch (magic, which humans are going to import as well, considering they are recruiting weather pegasi), economic devastation is very doubtful. That implies one party is overwhelmingly powerful with very free trade routes. Equestria holds the portal, are developed enough to have bustling cities, have a specialized tech tree, and are rich with natural resources. It looks more or less even to me.
5609991 Japanese culture has been around for thousands of years and yet after World War Two it Americanized very rapidly. Actually that's reductive thinking. Japan was going the way of the west ever since being introduced to it in the 19th century. The reason wasn't natural resources necessarily but technology which lead to a need for more and more resources, which lead to rapid modernization which lead to a catastrophic war which then lead to rapid Americanization.
I guess we just see things differently, but I view Equestria much like Meiji Japan: A strong but stagnant nation with a rich culture that couldn't hang on in the face of this new, almost god-like force with different values. Unable to resist, the leaders decided not only to go with it, but encourage the change. Much to the chagrin of the die-hards who wanted to keep the old ways.
This raises another question of just what the population of Equestria is in the Gentlemanverse. We taking a few thousand? A million?
TL:DR - I can't help but see a bad end scenario for Equestrian culture in a real-world scenario.
5610974
Well, there you go. Japanese leaders allowed the change to go, as well as factoring in the fact that Japan has very few natural resources to support itself. Japan has very small land to grow food to support a growing population, and its obvious why. In fact, I think the reason why Japan is so technologically advanced now is because it is the best way it can get money to import the necessities they need.
Also, as you say Americanized, I disagree. They went more progressive, yes, but they still retain a very Japanese identity. How so? Their present culture is still a mix of the traditional values they held, as well as new ones in the mix. They understand a lot of things that Westerners won't even begin to try and understand. They hold a different spiritual belief, ingrained with a lot of culture of hierarchy that is present in their business and lives. They are less individualistic than average Americans, and still follow the old ways, as it can be said.
As for your question, let me lay the factoids then. Equestria, as a country, is bigger than Japan. I'd say it's half the size of the US, but I have no real sense of scale so I cannot say with complete certainty. They hold more than a million of ponies, definitely, but like I said, sense of scale is not something I'm good with so I can't give an exact number. Tellus is basically Earth (for a good reason I'll explore soon), except split up into a lot of sapient species.
Personally, I try not to think of real world scenarios, because you need to put in a lot of information, including different sub-cultures they have (Equestrians are made of three sub-species of ponies that worked together, as well as geographical location), natural resources, farm-land, food production, technological production, religion, relations with other species, history, etc. etc. There are too many facts to conclude that something will happen. Maybe it will. Maybe it won't. Maybe an equalizing share of culture and tech trade will emerge. Maybe Equestrian culture will overpower human ones (doubtful, as we have a shit-ton compared to Equestrian ones). Maybe something happens, and humans die out, and the survivors will be adopted by Telluerians.
TLDR: It's a fictional world which we're trying our best to make it plausible. Introduce reality to it, it'll most likely collapse on itself.
5611414 Fair enough. I kinda came for the porn anyway.

You are forgiven.
... hmmm. Does that mean I'm a Rarity fan now?
I see that your going on a bit of a break but i hope this question makes it to the next Q&A. (Forgive me that i don't make it seem like a letter.)
what are Equestrians stance on artificial insemination and genetic manipulation. i can definitely see ponies on both sides of this question for the benefits of leveling gender ratios. The possibility that ponies have a form of manipulation but on a less successful scale may allow some ponies a bit of education and opinion on the topic. On the other side that they see it as an affront to Harmony (nature) as some humans in our day and age do, the dangers that genetic alteration could cause as well as expenses.
I've been following this story for a while now and i don't think I've seen this question proposed as of yet, but then again i don't normally read comments.
5614982 I can certainly things of worse things then being the Rarity Aficionado. I kind of thought you were into Rarity after the HarryxRarity chapter.
Then again who knows? I'm a huge fan of Applejack, and never seem to write about her.
5616585
I'm more of an everyfan. I like most of the pony characters, and don't have a fave of the mane six. XD I mostly used Rarity because she had a white coat like Eve, which would have made the whole "Eve turning to Rarity" scene a bit more plausible than any other pony.
5619342 Makes sense. I like all of the ponies too, but I'm one of those weirdos that has to have a favorite everything. I even have favorites for things I don't care about. It's madness I tell you! Favorite Pony is Applejack, favorite color is green... and my favorite snack of all time?
Nachos with sour cream!

XD One day, in the future, I'll be very proud of that scene, or horribly embarrassed.
Took me a looooong time to finally read the newest chapter, and goddamn, that Q&A was awesome!
5641545
Thanks! Hope you were satisfied with the answers to your two submitted questions. And I'll try to have another Dominion Academy chapter ready for you to view before too long...
5646794
Yup, I was
And Dominion Academy? Can't wait for that!
So wow, just read this whole thing and mostly enjoyed it, but man, what are you going on about with the whole stuff against feminism? It seems really out of place every time it comes up.
The passages like this are cringe inducing:
I don't think you really know what feminism is, it is not misandry.
The whole story is very well written and I enjoy the unique format, but come on it is the year 2015.
5916875 I'm surprised this comment is so late in coming. I actually remember proofreading the draft in its incomplete form and telling him this comment was inevitable months ago. I guess this means I'm finally living in the present!
All jokes aside, this chapter has nothing to do with historical equality feminism. If this was some MRA propaganda nonsense I would have pulled my name from it and disassociated myself with the entire thing. No, this is about Five Stars -- an alien in an alternate dimension -- reacting to the outright misandry present in so much of modern-day ‘feminism’. I'm not going to get big on detail as Firesight will be addressing your concern in a blog, but neither myself or Firesight desire to see a world were men are presumed to be damaged people who are a danger that need to be regulated by strict laws that punish us disproportionately.
And no that isn't what feminism is supposed to be about so we agree on that point.
5939412 Well you are firmly (relatively) in the present, just finished reading all of it about a week ago.
It really felt like it was bordering on the victim blaming, thinking back to the quote in the story about 'drunk girls who decided it was rape in the morning' comment. Incidents like that are the far distant outlier, so not fun to read that Five Stars thinks it is common place.
I can get behind the idea of this being from Five Stars' perspective, but man do I hope someone keys here in on just how fucking rough women have and currently still have it, despite making up an ever so slight majority.
If I am remembering this right, the Gentlemen verse is slightly in the future, and earth certainly isn't going to sort out its gender equality problems in a couple of decades.
Well. Just went through this whole thing in two days, and I’m pleasantly surprised to find it a pretty great read, considering my past experiences with third-party side-stories. A great addition to the Gentlemanverse, and I’m eagerly awaiting what comes next.
I have to say, though, my enjoyment of the story – gradually built up over two days of nonstop reading and getting enthralled by the engaging writing and relatable characters – took a dive when I came across that anti-feminist caricaturization at the last minute. I really hope Five Stars just repeating the claims about feminists as they were told to her, a character in a fictional show, rather than this being a case of the author’s genuine sentiments filtering through. It might be used to set up a “teachable moment” where Five Stars learns more about feminism and why it’s still a necessary thing in our society, preferably from an actual feminist (which, of course, means anyone who believes in gender equality and doesn’t shun the title “feminist”).
I know this may seem out of place, but for a story that’s dealt so well with issues of popular prejudices and how harmful they can be, it was rather disappointing to see such a stereotypically false description of feminists pop up out of the blue. For all the talk of misandrists, they comprise only the slightest fringe, and it would be nice to see them treated accordingly, not as representative of feminists at large.
Just had to get that off my chest. Carry on.
Thanks for writing this, I have really enjoyed it and hope to read more
Since i read the original fic of gentlemen, I had missed this kind of fic where you explore the difference between both societies given a mature and coherent point of view of the relationships. Maybe is weird but i am not here because the clop xD i dont mind it, but what i like most is the development and personality of five stars character. Also the format of the letters and articles is very enjoyable.
5976583
You're very welcome. Story is on a three-month hiatus right now so I can work my other in-progress story, The Lawyer and The Unicorn, but more is definitely coming. If you liked it outside of the clop and have enjoyed her development as a character, then as far as I'm concerned I've done my job, and I'm gratified that you appreciate the unusual story format as well. Thanks for commenting!
5977204 thanks to you to comment back.
Then i will tell you that meanwhile in the original gentlemen i liked the romantical part, in your fic i appreciate more the character like 5 stars. I think she is much richer as a character than the gentlemen
Also the background story of the newspapers and their fight were appreciated. When you read all the story at once, stopping with this other events and the letters of 5 stars, made me rest of the mains story and really feel like it is like a newspaper. Also made the main story more enjoyable
Finally, I noticed tou used some spanish around there ;)
enjoy your hiatus
5961174 5942344
Thank you for your comments and I'm glad you both liked the story. Since you expressed some concerns about the last chapter, my honest thoughts on the subject of feminism and gender equality are here: http://www.fimfiction.net/blog/486103/trigger-warning-honest-thoughts-on-feminism-ahead
Caught up! Very excellent and thought provoking.
5997841
Thank you! I don't get the candy crush comment, though...
