The story mentions some humans across the portal not liking the articles, but is it really affecting earth? How do the humans as a whole see the situation?
Another chapter! Sweet!
I especially love the way you're presenting Hot Topic and Kalido Tenna (might be a stupid question, but it's a man or a woman?). It adds an interesting second layer to the story - not only we've got the story of Five Stars, but also trials and tribulations of those who publish her texts. Brilliant idea, can't wait to see how that plays out (hope they won't cave in)
Also, will there be another Q&A later in the story?
4889303 Based on Changeling Roun (and other stuff in the Gentlemanverse, humans have a rather neutral opinion on the ponies politically despite the alliance. We haven't known them for very long after all.
As far as sex goes, they are as creeped out as the ponies are, but for different cultural reasons. Humans see it as bestiality, and Ponies see it as a mortal threat to the stability of the herd structure and harmony in general.
The human men who make the trip though the portal though don't seem to last long under the tactical genius of Five Stars though.

Psh. I got lucky. I like this story, and that's what's important to me.
4885900 You've got a good attitude, real talent, and a likable disposition. You'll succeed.
If I might be so bold as to make a suggestion, it would be to never lose your appreciation for the material. I don't just mean the Gentlemanverse Canon, but the Ponies themselves. There are a lot of good, no, great writers on here, who for whatever reason just seem to want to slash these characters up without so much as a plot device to justify it. Mindless, senseless brutality for gratifications sake.
More then anything I hope you keep your good-natured manner the way DEL has. There are plenty of folks who will write fetish, and some of it will be friggin' awesome, but few who can really sell the whole ponies banging scenario for dramatic purposes. I like to think that's what the Gentlemanverse is all about.
Alright enough soapbox for me. I have a day off work to go enjoy!
Want more! lol
But seriously, please keep writing. This is a really great story, and I look forward to seeing how Five Star reacts when humanity comes a knocking.
4889303 just look what human groups today think about religions ... and then make a wild guess !
wooooot!!! another chapter!!!
Wow.. things are looking grim for the G4M staff and the magazines. I hate to be in their shoes. That said i hope the 'funk' you got your self into gets resolved.
Another wonderfull chapter; I've got a critiq though, I understand that there would be a lot of rejection in equestrian society, but in earth? I find it hard to believe that there would be death threats, unless those ones are encourage by influencial ponies; I would believe muslims extremists would do so, but I don't how they would care, I don't think this is a threat for their contries, and I don't think any muslim would accept being a gentleman, or take a mare in general for that matter, anyway, it would be interesting to know what cause so much troubles in earth to the point of harrasment and death threats, perhaps you could elavorate a little bit ?; again thanks for the chapter, and take it easy, for your story, I'm always fine to wait.
4890255 You got lucky with G4M or got lucky and met Five Star's real life counterpart?
But seriously I wouldn't feel guilty about getting lucky with G4M even if I did accept the dubious suggestion your success is based on luck. G4M came out the same year as Xenophilia which people loved and shares many common elements with the Leroverse. The biggest streak of "luck" was modifying the end of "We Need Gentleman," the notorious Five Stars chapter. That original ending was so horrible, it bears comparison with Dante being shot at the end of "Clerks" before it was wisely cut out in the film release. I not only would have downvoted it, I probably would have left a nasty comment.
I would argue from a minority view that Xenophilia is horribly overrated and it's claims to comparing human and pony cultures was a classic "bait and switch" to serve up the whole 2 chicks at the same time resolution which irks me every time I think about it. Also the characterization of Applejack was just humiliating to read. You completely sanded off all the crap that bothered me, and actually ended up delivering on Xenophilia's marketing pitch.
That's just my opinion though.
Thanks for all the comments, everypony! This is most I've seen on a single chapter yet...
4889303
That's a little out of the scope of this story, except for what you read in the chapter intros. I might do a side story to try to explore or explain that. All I will say right now is that people being people, it doesn't have to "affect" them in order for them to have strong opinions on the matter and demand action be taken against the articles. Beyond that, what he said: 4890196
4890113
I'm glad to see you're enjoying the substory! As to your first question, Kalido Tenna is a woman. As she's supposed to be the counterpart of Hot Topic, I used a real cheap trick in that her name is a possible Spanish translation of Hot Topic.
And yes, there will be another Q&A session, and possibly two depending on how long the story gets.
4890255
Thank you very much. I consider it very high compliment that you like my story! I don't think you were just lucky, though... you've not only come up with stuff I would never have thought of, but you've pulled it off in fine fashion, inspiring an entire verse around it in the process. You've earned your popularity, sir.
I mean, if you've told me before I read them a story about human escorts for pony mares or a crossover military thriller involving Gilda would become my two favorite stories, I'd've said you were nuts and there was no way they could be anything but bad. But you made them happen and really come to life, and that says an awful lot for your writing skill and imagination.
I guess the biggest compliment I can give you is that you've inspired *other* people write inside your universe and expand on your stories and characters. Precious few people can say that in any fanverse!
4890281
Thanks for saying so, and I agree with you 100%. My biggest requirement in a story is to respect the characters and the world (or worlds, in this case) they live in. There are precious few that pull that off at times. I enjoy clop as much as the next brony, but I could count the number of fics that really do it for me and that I enjoy going back to reread repeatedly on just one hand for that reason. And of course to date... there's only *one* fic/fanverse that I would care to write a story in... one guess which one that is.
4890632
Not worry, humans are coming. I tend to alternate this story with writing new chapters of Turnabout Storm, which is wrapping up by the end of the year. I think DEL is correct in that working two stories at once is my limit.
4891616
Thanks. I may have more to say about my 'funk' in a blog post. I don't want to spam my own comments section with it.
4891680
Well, by what you and a couple of others have said below, it's looking more like I'm going to have address the question on reactions on earth somehow. I'll probably do so in the next chapter. Might even pull out a side story at some point for it. For now, I agree with you that of the three major earth faiths, only one would be predisposed to oppose ponies like this, but there are other, non-religious reasons for people to do so. Five Stars will probably address this in the next chapter.
4893946
Well, I'm not going to badmouth another fic or author, particularly one that's inspired its own canon and has influenced my own works in various ways. All I will say that is *all* porn/clop is, at its basic level, some form of fantasy fulfillment/self-insert. Mine is no different, and hell, I've written an entire book by now that's chock full of it. What sets apart basic porn/clop from erotica isn't that, it's having believable characters and an interesting story underlying it, thus making the scenes that much more powerful and moving for it. Characters you can identify with and appreciate, whether it's Five Stars, Harry Larson, or Kamilya Kampo (from my book). I personally find Xeno fascinating just for the very well-thought exploration of Equestrian culture it offers, even if I find Lero a little unbelievable as a character.
4894270 hullo again firesight. still feeling 'funky'?
i hope not, anyway, i noticed in one of your comments you mentioned that there will be another Q an A? sweet. i hope a certain 'angry unicorn' with a dolphin cutie mark asks a question this time.
stay awesome /)
4894270 Fair enough. If anything there are the nuts and bolts for a sturdy, functional universe in there. While the story did let me down in a huge huge way, and the characters made me cringe (RD excluded ) the writing itself was actually pretty good. Well paced, fine understanding of English, a few good laughs in there, and the clop parts were insanely good.
Like bring a towel you are going to need it good.
I don't think Anon Author is a bad writer, on the contrary his prose is fantastic.
If you're reading this Anon Author I do not hate you! I just wish I liked you a whole lot more.
I agree with the premise that all clop is wish-fulfillment to an extent. Why in all hell should I care about Harry Larson unless in some way I am Harry Larson? I just can't throw myself behind Xeno. Again, I'm really not trying to start any trouble here, and I apologize for coming off personal.
4893946
I haven't had luck yet on the latter, I'm afraid.
As for We Need Gentlemen, it took three rewrites before I was actually happy with it. A lot of my pre-readers thought it was my best chapter yet, and I'd agree if it wasn't for the content. It had a lot of uncomfortable messages that I didn't mean to put, so yeah, it's safe to say I got lucky there.
4894241
Even fewer for the verse to actually be mostly positive. Maybe I am doing something right, after all.
Anyways, I've been busy, and I'm trying to keep up, but I'll try to leave enough time to pre-read any future chapters. Good luck dude.
4894309
A bit, yeah. Actually, Sea Swirl did appear in the first Q&A. Will she appear again? We'll see. I actually don't know myself yet, and probably won't until and unless I'm typing and she suddenly appears. A surprising amount of my writing works that way.
And thanks.
4894753
The original Xeno story is very good, and the clop is off-the-charts, a lot of it. I still bring a towel to it now.
I actually think the anon writer of Xeno is a girl, for the very simple reason that Lero strikes me as some woman's idea of a perfect man. And don't worry. Unless you start throwing bombs or trolling, I don't have a problem. Just keep in mind that these stories take a LOT of work to make good, and everybody has different tastes. One thing I've had to learn the hard way is you can't please everybody, and if you try you end up pleasing nobody--least of all yourself.
The stories I write are as much for my own edification and enjoyment as for others. In case you're interested, my personal favorite chapter out of this whole thing is actually a non-clop chapter: Part 8: Choice and Consequence. Why? Because I was able to turn around and show events through a different set of eyes, and explore that character (Rising Star) in the process. She was originally intended to have only a bit role--much like Five Stars in the original G4M--but she took on a life of her own as has become one of my favorite created characters in this.
4897014
Nor have I, sadly...
Thanks, I really do appreciate it. I know life happens, so don't ever worry about it if you can't.
4959935 oh my god?! She did?!? I need to read that chapter again
Let me explain. I loved the relationship between wingman and seaswirl, loved, as in past tense.
Alas, seaswirl became... insufferable. Now that love is but a twisted shell of its former self but i still want to read what happened to her after the story (im still hoping for a gentlemen for mares sequel... its okay to dream right?
now... to read that chapter again
4959935
I know that now. Yesterday I started construction on my first story; a Gentlemanverse clopfic, and it took me 6 and a half hours. 6 and a half hours to write 618 words! Less then 1 word a minute! I eventually picked up steam and plowed through up to 1500 words at the 9 hour mark, but trust me I'm acutely aware just how agonizing it is to write anything.
The worst part is I'm not really creating anything new like Anon Author was; I'm just putting a different spin on it! Thankfully my story isn't going to run for much longer then 5000-6000 words. You're really made of stern stuff to be able to put out a first story on here with such lofty ambitions!
Though it does help you've written other stuff. I have about as much experience writing as I do flying a space shuttle.
Oh my God you're right! Now that you brought that up I'm wondering why I never thought it before and a lot of stuff is just occurring to me.
You mentioned Lero being somewhat unbelievable in a previous post, but the problem for me was much deeper then that. I actually liked Lero and thought he was a pretty nice guy. I also really liked Rainbow Dash and the way her insecurities were portrayed in a believable fashion.
My hostility towards this particular work can be entirely explained by the fact that Rainbow Dash's demand for a herd relationship struck me as unfair; and in Lero's case, unwanted. I think I may have projected myself onto Lero and actually taken that personally.
Well played Anonymous, well played!
My favorite chapter of 5SS is 9, the Q&A with Five Stars. She really comes off as someone whose been through a lot and learned a thing or two. If there was an ask tumblr of her I'd probably follow it because she's just that cool, and I never go to ask tumblrs.
Seems like the Gentlemen For Mares board and staff aren't familiar with the attractive prospect of hiring human PMCs for security. I mean, these articles are being posted a good while after the events of Feathered Heart and ponies and other Tellus civilizations are already familiar with human media and the amount of violence we are capable of in a sense. Humans with firearms and trained to use them to protect their clients should be nothing completely alien to Tellurian people, and very intimidating because of the slight familiarity with a wide sense of unknown and the known penchant of humans for conflict and warfare.
And the Equestrian Crown would be doing themselves a disservice flif the didn't allow contractors to DEFEND their Equestrian clients without resorting to violence. If it comes to gunfire... That's another matter entirely.
Unless they can't pay. In that case, G4M is SOL.
While I can't really predict Celestia's opinion on Gentlemen, I can say for certain that she wouldn't take threats and assults sitting down especially if they're done "in the name of harmony."
Ahh, the 'dark chapter'. Sometimes, despite our best efforts, real life affects the mood of our stories — even talented writers are at risk.
On a side note, I edited out the huge blank spaces in my nearly 2-year old posts. I didn't know what I was doing in 2014. My apologies, mobile-users.
To get an ISP to pull your pages you need to be soliciting minors for sex or something. This is really severe! Still, I can see the print versions being pulled and hackers gonna hack, amirite? Hell, 2014 was the year of the hack! I really hope some do-gooders on the social media are bringing attention to this very real oppression that has people holed up in their own houses with police-effing-protection! This far outmatches anything feminist crapmongers have ever had to deal with.
If things get any worse, the government will install machine gun turrets in his house "for his own protection". Beware the Ministry of Mass Murder my friends!
Meanwhile over on TSoP, a couple of stallions give Richard a shifty look in Ponyville during the height of the tension between Equestria and G4M... and then keep walking. Good work, AJ Aficionado. Well done... To my credit, I strongly considered putting in a tense standoff between the angry group of ponies and Richard on the new defunct chapter six. Hell, I could probably add it now that the epilogue has been scrapped...
I might look into that. Though Roseluck won't be able to participate lest continuity be damaged.
Now this is what the Gentlemanverse is all about! I can make joke comparisons about this chapter and FoE all day, but most of the Gentlemanverse is a pretty dark place outside of my stories and Betashade's The First Gentleman. Changelings get murdered; Rainbow Dash treats Harry like shit; AJ is a frigid, racist southerner; griffins fight to the death; that one dude gets straight up date-raped by a mare with help from from her human female friend... What the deuce!?
To be fair, I'll point out that Gentleman's Gift, outside of a rather hostile Rainbow Dash scene, is pretty light and fluffy too. There's definitely room for the lighter side around here.
That horn ain't gonna suck itself.
Oh dear...
It's not easy being an earth pony fillyfooler, having to compete with all those resourceful unicorns.
If only Pac-Man were so lucky.
Hey, it's me in Equestria! Glad to see I was reborn as an earth pony! I can see myself now: tilling the land, moving heavy things, trying to figure out how vaginas work — all that fun stuff!
No Roseluck and Lily this chapter. Sorry about that. They'll be back for the next chapter though trying to figure out how all that magic sex works.
The closing chapter has some font color issues you may want to check out

So it does. Fixed.
