Hello and welcome to Duty to the Last!

I hope that you'll enjoy it - even though it puts [Dark] into Gore environment. Be advised that even if you're against gore-y stuff in pony world, you can still read the first chapter and treat it as my light-hearted take on Canterlot and the Royal Guards!

Now, to fully understand its genesis, please take a minute to hear my tale. I've been reading stories here on FIMFiction and found a piece built around a pony commando squad. Later that (rainy) day, I left a comment under another story, pointing out that the death of the Royal Guards mentioned in there wasn't as shocking for the Princesses as it should have been. The final strike came in the form of the set of pictures comparing the lives of teenagers and war-knowing soldiers. It was too much for me to walk by it, so I channelled my feels into this story, which can actually act as a prelude to that second story I mentioned. I don't usually kill ponies!

More or less constructive criticism is encouraged, of course - don't hesitate to tell me what you think! And what if you stumbled upon this story, but it's not really your cup of tea? Worry not, as you are bound to find something amongst my other recent projects!

3123496 Well, as one of those Soldiers you're trying to commemorate, I'll give this a read, and let you know what I think.

The writing itself is okay, but the message is very well portrayed.I'm not sure if you're a soldier or not, but well done, none the less.

Thanks for giving it a read. I'm not a soldier (for the record I think my mindset would make me a pretty useless one) and the only role I could possibly play in an actual combat scenario would be sitting in a tent and strategizing. But I have deepest respect to those who fight for the cause.

3665027 Anyone can be a soldier, honestly it's not hard. It's not even about mindset, as your mindset can easily be changed. You just need to want to be a soldier, and you have to have a love of what you are fighting for (friends, family, country, etc).

This was...

...nice.
I liked the story and I think your writing was really good. I would have liked to hear more of their backstories as it seemed to end very abruptly. It seems a shame that so few have read this and I have read it thrice.

Heh, I'm actually surprised to see someone unearthing this story! :pinkiegasp: I'm glad you like it despite it obvious lacks (almost two years of writing make it rather pale in comparison to some of my fresher projects).
