Father's day has come to Equestria. Twilight Sparkle has apparently been working on a special gift for her father Night Light for the past few years. The problem is that despite all the time and effort she had put in, it still wasn't complete. But now seemes like the right time, and she just hopes it will mean as much to him as it did to her.
My first non-romance piece. Got the idea from a story I read a while back. Possible spoiler if I list it here so check out author notes if you like the story. Happy father's day to everyone. Hope this inspires you to give your dad a hug today.

This story is a sequel to Power of the Mind

Parents are always prone to worry about their children, especially when their young daughter tends to attract adventure wherever she goes. Night Light and Twilight Velvet talk about their daughter, and wonder what they did to deserve all of this.

When Shining Armor learns that he was adopted, his heart is broken. He leaves his family in search of the one he was born to. But the more he learns about his real past, the more he wonders if it was maybe for the best no one told him. As he delves further into the lives of his biological family, he makes new friends, new enemies, and despite his best attempts, finds himself falling in love with someone who is most definitely not his girlfriend. But in the end, the biggest question is, will his past become his future? Or will he stay loyal to the family who raised him?

Twilight Velvet doesn't get to see her daughter much, so she's ecstatic when she's invited to Ponyville during a school holiday. While there, she runs into Mistmane, one of the fabled heroes she's heard so much about. Velvet was expecting an intimidating presence, full of splendor and awe-inspiring, but finds herself feeling a bit differently.

But nothing prepares you for a surprise visit of the filly you found and took care of, wanting to make this a Christmas evening you won't forget.

Abstract: Humans and Ponies, by our very nature, are social creatures. We gather, we find partners, and we form families. This is no less true for members of the Foundation than it is for any other group. Unfortunately, due to the nature of our work, such relationships create the potentials for massive breaches of security, and in several cases, have required the use of amnestics. By granting the loved ones of specific Foundation personnel a special class of Level 0 clearance, not only does one decrease what could be considered a potential security breach, but also reduces amnestic use, and in many cases, helps alleviate the stress and physical/mental strain constant deception of loved ones has upon Foundation personnel…

Twilight has been working for the Foundation for several years now, ever since she rose to become Celestia's personal student and turned 18, she has been working with the Foundation.
But now, after all the adventures she and her friends and family and gone through, all the tears and laughs, they still do not know of her affliction with the Foundation, or that the Foundation even existed.

After witnessing how Dr. Deep Study's daughter denounced her father as a workaholic who never pays attention to her and loves working more than her, even though he died preventing a ZK-End-of-Reality Scenario, Twilight has decided it was time to activate FD90, and reveal to her freinds and family...what she does in the dark.

(The Sequel Prequel to A Cold Day!)

The jury, those twelve mares selected by lots to choose his fate, largely ignored the young pony in the grey jumpsuit. Was he waiting for someone? If so, no one came. No one cared. It didn’t matter any more, because time was up. One by one they stepped out the door, and then all at once the jury box was empty.

What happened that night? Would this young colt, a displaced refugee from a bloody civil war, really kill his own mother? After all, the Everfree terrorists no older than this colt had done worse things to better ponies. Had he? Between passion and prejudice, it certainly seems so — but one mare disagrees.

Though Twelve Angry Mares stands alone, it is probably best enjoyed as a sequel, of sorts, to a previous story of mine, Blackacre. You don't need to have read it to appreciate this — certainly the styles and tones struck are vastly different — but it does contextualize some of the prejudice and gut reactions of our cast of characters.
For those of my faithful readers coming from Blackacre: this is not a straight sequel, so if you come at it like one you'll probably be a bit disappointed. There's no sequel proper . . . not yet.

In 1957, Reginald Rose wrote a screenplay about a murder trial. It has since been adapted many times, and the story you're about to read draws from many of those adaptations. Twelve Angry Mares is, however, something entirely different, located in a different world, with different concerns. Though similar on the surface, you are about to read a very different story than the one with which you might be familiar.
And yet — there is a resonance here that goes beyond space and time, beyond one story or another. You are about to read a pony fanfic, but there's more here than just that. The basic elements of this story are ones that should be familiar to all, for this isn't a story about ponies. It's a story about me. About you. About the very heart of the notion of justice, of fairness, of what is right.
I greatly enjoyed telling this story, and sincerely hope you enjoy experiencing it.
