My first story on here, I don't have an editor so I apologize for any mistakes. This is also only the prologue to a series of stories I hope to write under the Title of "The King Tumult."

I will also warn any readers that the characterizations of certain characters will be different than in canon, though I try to do so for good reason. Hopefully you can enjoy the story despite that.

It was the first time in years she had taught anyone how to cook. And Cadance was the best student she had ever had. A lot better than her own son atleast, who invented more shortcuts than he learnt cooking methods. She swore, if she ever again saw a pony teleport the entire seasoning bottles into the pot instead of sprinkling them in like a normal pony -

Well, the point was that Velvet's kids were terrible at cooking.

Well, atleast one of them was.

She knew Shiny wouldn't last a week without the castle chefs. But Twily - she hadn't the faintest clue? And she wasn't sure she would ever learn the answer to that. Once - close to seven years ago - Velvet had dreamed of teaching her only daughter the recipes that her Maredrasian grandmare and Bucklynite mother had taught her when she was a little filly herself. She had dreamed of teaching Twily of all the wonderful meals she ate growing up in the Lower Manehattan market street and in a student apartment in Vanhoover.

But that wouldn't be. It had been three years since she had seen her daughter. Three years in which she wondered how much Twily had grown up. And as she wished she was teaching her daughter instead of a mare who might become her daughter-in-law, she couldn't help but wonder if Princess Celestia ever taught her daughter how to make a mushroom bake.

In order for Shining Armor to be able to join the Royal Guard, he must complete a seven-month training regime. That's a long time
During that time, the Sparkle family has been learning to live without the young colt. Several tears were shed during that time. But, now, he's finally come home.

Night Light is a uni-friended unicorn, who had spent very little time with his mother. On Mother's Day, everypony else had a mother to be with, except for him, but in exchange, he was in a trance of romance and wound when a unicorn named Twilight Velvet, was not sure whether it is time for her new mate to be made. The ill fated experience of this night will never be forgotten by anypony who witnessed the pure mixture of what was true euphoria.

During a trip to visit with her family in Canterlot, Princess Twilight Sparkle sees a picture on the wall at the Royal Guard Headquarters. The picture and the caption blows her mind.

Twilight Velvet tells her daughter about a past that she hadn’t hidden but never had brought up before.

The things about her mother, Twilight never expected. Including who she is really married to and how her father fits into this. Since everypony is coming clean about themselves, Twilight introduces her marefriend of 3 years… Applejack.

When Twilight was nearly raped because an old classmate was acting on false rumors from school, Applejack comes to comfort her friend. In doing so, the apple brandy (not AJ’s cousin) AJ brought to calm Twilight down allows Twilight to confess her deepest secret to Starlight Glimmer. But Starlight Glimmer is a lavender Unicorn, not the orange Earth Pony there with her.
