Rockhoof loves his new job as Keeper of Tales, and the students love him, too. His tales of old Equestria capture the imagination and are always good for a thrill.
But sometimes what a teacher teaches and a student learns can be very different things.

The island of Rockhoof's birth was desolate and barren. Life clung on by a thread to those wind-tossed shores. Summers were hard and winters harder, but he found love there, and someday, he hopes he will find it again.

During the events of "Rockhoof and a Hardplace," the ancient hero tries out for other jobs to find out where he fits into modern society after the failure as a professor from the School of Friendship. In his stay in Ponyville, he decides to try out as a farmhoof at Sweet Apple Acres. While there and through a cultural misunderstanding, he thinks that Big Macintosh purposes something life-changing.

Rockhoof is one of the Pillars of Equestria, gifted with unparalleled strength. He's also isolated himself from everypony, including his friends. Something is troubling him and it's up to Princess Luna to find out the source of his misery.

On her scavenge for volt shrooms in the bayou, Meadowbrook comes across a shadow that will alter her future for the good and worst. Follow her tale of love, hope, and despair as tries to build a future with a stallion trapped in the past.

Stygian is running out of excuses, and running out of patience! Will these two be able to work out their differences, or will the tiny Stygian have to battle the burly Rockhoof for dominance?!

That is, except for Rockhoof. He just doesn't seem to have a place in this new scary world.

So he asks Sunset to kill him.
