In the far-off Frozen North, a mysterious, long-lost empire reasserts its hold over Equestrian magic. Tasked with securing it for the betterment of Equestria, Princess Cadance will be forced to overcome not one, but two of its overthrown monarchs.

The son of Princess Amore has lost everything and has to find his place in the world of a thousand years ago. Hoping to find a reason to move on, he wanders aimlessly everywhere accompanied by his faithful escort, a female warrior from his homeland, in a relentless search for traces of the past they left behind. In the course of their journey they meet a musician of extraordinary abilities, who unannounced joins them, determined to bring his art to every corner. Together, they gather their courage and embark on a dangerous mission to try to save the Crystal Empire, in which they must overcome the adversities along the way, discover themselves and build together not only their own destiny, but that of all of Equestria.

Turbulent times were upon the Equestria of a millennium ago. Dealing with the consequences of one evil after another and working for the sake of harmony required enormous sacrifices; sometimes the efforts of the good were in vain and the cost very high. At the end of one dark stage, much had been lost, but one sunny day heralded the beginning of an era of celestial peace. There is just so much that time erased, so much history lost from one generation to another, that the passing of the years managed to tear the roots of the past from the memory of those who live today; although some long-lived beings keep the memories of yesteryear as scars and carry with them wounds that never finished healing.

Lives, forgotten events and unanswered questions; much finds explanation in these very pages, in the epic adventure never told by any other manuscript in history, because you had to be there to live it.

To understand the present that surrounds us, one must first look beyond the crystal.

Many years after the fall of the Equus Empire, the Virtue of Hope has helped to establish the Crystal Empire. It is a city she protects with all her power, and with all her love.

One night as she sits in the company Amore, the pony who will one day succeed her as Queen of the Crystal Empire, she is asked by the young unicorn about their shared heritage. Amore, like Hope, had once lived behind the hallowed and shining walls of Roan. Hope, though saddened by the prospect of recalling the city she once ruled over, tells Amore of their homeland.

And of its fall.

A back-story and world building story for the Equus Empire that Witching Hour and myself are slowly building up.

Hope, Strength, Life, Compassion, Love are creations of myself and Witching Hour, as are the Alicorn Shiro and the Drake Jinsong, the Construct Doctor, and the City of Roan.

I've been a royal guard since I was 16. I'm 37 now and I've worn 3 different sets of armour. One blue, one black, and the other silver. Its not like I've changed which army I served, I've always served the crystal empire. If I was asked what my life was like at that time, it would defy every expectation of the sugar coated brutal past this empire has.

Equestria's history has been altered. Changed and evolved into a complex web of lies and deceit. The truth, over a period of a thousand years, has become buried so deep that no pony can ever recover it. The Princesses themselves remain ignorant and blind to much of the darkness their parents allowed to fester. The tales contained in this volume tell the whole truth, no matter how dark and grim. Only through reading this tome, will the truth be revealed. I pray that the veil over your eyes may be torn, so you may behold the naked, terrible, and glorious reality of the past.

This story is meant to explain the changes I made to equestrian history for my novel, The Power of Truth. The story will contain countless viewpoints. Ranging from court scribes to King Sombra himself. I will try to update this story alongside of The Power of Truth. You do not have to read this to understand The Power of Truth, and vice versa. Dark tag once again does not mean grim dark. If you did not get the time period from the information above, this story is set around one thousand years ago, in my own version of ancient Equestria.
