Rainbow's hopes for a nice day off are dashed when she is awakened by a loud explosion, and goes to investigate, little did she know she and everypony in Equestria would find themselves caught up in a strange tale about invaders from another time, a dark and vengeful entity's return, and the means to stop him...

Earthbound/Mother 2, Equestria style! I know it's been done a few times before, but I thought I'd give it a try. A couple events are altered, added, and a few changed around, so that it can fit the characters and setting more rather then be a ponified walkthrough.

Upon rescuing an enslaved pegasus colt from the Crystal Empire, Princess Celestia decides to make him, her personal protege after realising that he has a unique gift.

What starts out as a normal day for Jay ends up becoming something bigger with the role as leader of team STARS is handed over to him. This role will ring him through several trials at the hands of Equestria's greatest enemies!

Princess Cadance has some problems in her sovereignty over the Crystal Empire. For one thing, she isn't even a crystal pony. Another thing is that the crystal ponies would much rather have the former King Sombra rule over them... despite previously reigning with an iron hoof and treating the populace like whipping mules. To prevent civil war, Cadance has a brilliant idea to ensure her bid for the throne while pleasing the people: have an election.

Subtle Strike was one of the most timid pony you'll every meet. Always in the background. So when he joined the army, he thought that he was going to be safe. Nothing ever happens, and if anything did, the elements would take care of it. So, you can imagine how happy he was when we was sent to the middle of nowhere, The Crystal Empire. But King Sombra came back. No one knew how, but he was back, and once again, he is trying to take over the Crystal Empire. Much more inclined to a peaceful resolution, Subtle Strike, with his best friend, Flash Sentry, go for peace talks. You could say it was successful.
