What if the Humane 5 had been more rational when they confronted Sunset? And what if it had been Sunset who stormed off?

During "The Times They Are a Changeling", Spike was able to use the magic of song to prove that Thorax wasn't evil, convincing everyone in earshot, especially Shining Armor and Cadance to trust him and let him stay in the Crystal Empire.

... Except what if it hadn't been that easy? What would it take then to prove something like that, especially to a pony who had so bitterly said, "There's no such thing as a nice changeling" ?

Yep, an alternate take on the ending of The Times They Are a Changeling, the only part of the episode I felt was rushed.

It can be hard to move on after a loss. Twilight Sparkle can tell you that. After the loss of somepony close, Twilight has to deal with raising her three kids alone. One night, the youngest, Starlight Aurora, wakes up from a nightmare. Starlight takes Twilight back to memories she both loved and hated. Twilight tries to comfort her daughter in the best way possible.

Kind of based of my story The Next Generation of Harmony, but is not connected to it in any way.

We all know how the end of the story went. Starlight was shown the disastrous consequences of her time travel spell, she revealed her past, Twilight took her under her wing as her own student and she mends her ways.

But what if that wasn't the case?

Even when the results of Starlight's meddling of the past is shown to her, she rejects the offer of friendship and still vows to never stop her attempts to exact revenge on the Mane Six and ruin their connection. Thus Twilight is faced with only one final option...

Twilight is a hoof-full. Having the combined traits of her mothers academic prowess, and the wanderlust of her father, made her in to a walking storm of magical mayhem. She has great potential, her power being greater then that of most, but she does not know how to control it. This changes, however, when her parents let her go with them on a trip to a local temple in the woods below Canterlot. There, she discovers a spirit that can help her control her power, and teach her things long forgotten in the annals of history. How ever, knowledge always has its price.

Twilight Sparkle loses herself in one of A.K. Yearling's book on her way home from the Canterlot Library. Before she long she finds herself lost in Canterlot. She runs into an unsavory fellow and when he tries to attack her she flees. Eventually she collapses from exaustion then is rescued by a mysterious stranger who returns her to her home.

Sometimes the most ominous words one can hear are: "We need to talk."

After the events of "Every Little Thing She Does," Twilight's friends get together with her to talk about Starlight Glimmer. It turns out her friends have some more concerns over just what's happened with Starlight and they explore how Twilight factors into things.

The girls go over some of the things they've learned in the past as they try to chart out a course for the future of Starlight Glimmer.
