MLP: Hard Analysis & Criticism 257 members · 69 stories

This group is a safe haven for people who are less than satisfied with the direction that My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic has been headed as of late. Whether you're dissatisfied with season four, lost faith in the series (as well as humanity) with Equestria Girls, or even saw the end coming the moment Mrs. Faust stepped down, know that you have a place here alongside other people who are in the same mindset. Discuss what's wrong with the series, what could make it better, organize your thoughts so you feel more comfortable offering a counter argument against someone who disagrees with you. Most of all, have fun (hating)!

Post-Season 9 edit

Anyone who is a brony is aware of how increasingly divisive MLP FiM has become over its 9 year run. Whether it be A Canterlot Wedding, Magical Mystery Cure, or even all the way to the series finale or anywhere between, waves of criticism and critical analysis over the years have sprung up as the show became ever less than the seemingly flawless product it was from the start. As the series introduced increasingly egregiously erroneous developments, the admittedly petty complaints as far back as Season 3 have become more nuanced and valid. For the longest time, the most forgiving fans of the show held nothing but hostility for anyone brave enough to acknowledge flaws in the material we were getting. That is why this group exists.

While criticism of the series has become more widespread and accepted, this group will continue to serve as the premier safe haven for discussing the tragic flaws of MLP FiM ranging from the show itself, the comic book tie-in series from IDW, or the upcoming sequelized G5. Anyone is welcome to join in discussing the series’ failings while appreciating the golden early days and the increasingly rare works of quality later in the series’ lifespan.

Come on in. Make yourself comfortable. And feel free to speak.

Old complaints become more nuanced over time. This group has always had a purpose and it was to give hard critique and analyses over MLP that more generous observers would rather not approach. The title is more condensed and concise compared to what was before.

We’re not a bunch of whiners who don’t know better and I felt it was time to adjust the group title to prevent others from having this misconception.

But we did hate what they did to the show for the last few seasons. The change to the name just feels meh in comparison to the old name.

I felt it was necessary.

Is it me or did they change the name of this group?

I'll always love MLP: FiM , but I'm not happy with the direction they took the show in, and I'm not a fan of a lot of things they did. I never liked alicorn Twilight (I'm sorry, I just don't like it), or the Castle Of Friendship. I don't hate Starlight Glimmer, but I think that some of complaints people made about her were indeed valid. The movie is also BADLY overrated. And those are just a few things of many. I personally also thought that the School Of Friendship wasn't a good idea (Friendship isn't something that can be taught in a classroom.) The thing is, Hasbro at it's core is a toy company, and a lot of their decisions are based on how much money they can make off of toys. It's always been that way, and probably always will be.

I didn't, unfortunately. I'm going to start a thread about the current situation.

Here you go.

Or not. Hasbro forced it to be taken down. I hope you saw it while it was up.

I'm looking for a full version of the episode. Doesn't look like YouTube or Dailymotion has any uploads yet, so I'll wait a day or two.

The next CERR may be as late as Monday, as I'll be extremely busy this weekend. Hopefully, though, I'll be able to get it done tomorrow.

Happy Easter, everyone!

Holding out for Christmas before reviewing the special, eh? Good man.

It feels like it's been awhile. Soon will be season 9, and I can't wait to see what the show has in store (even if it is not good.) I also have the Christmas special to review, which should be soon!

Boy do I sure just wish it would end already! Talk about eye candy beating a dead horse <.<
(Yeah I was in love with FIW back then too, bite me! I have wonderful taste!)

I haven't herd of this manga in years. It was quite a different time 6 years ago when there was good reason for the show to have become popular enough to sink into even the most isolationist pop cultures. Like a window into better days past.

See, people like me who don't care for where the show is headed anymore haven't exactly found another fandom to run to yet, and therefore end up implying more interest than intended by showing up here and saying something like:

I'm feeling a little too proud that this comment was posted on my birthday.

I joined this group just now because I agree with it. That is all. I was never once into considering myself a "pony lovin' fagt" (that's a joke, srsly, i mean no offense to anyone) such as a brony, but I did once find their passion and creativity extremely hard to turn a blind eye on nonetheless (the internet only grows more boringly predictable over so many years). Nah. These multicolored equine are truly for little girls, but they make for nice aesthetics...

I've started watching the show in April of 2012 and I stopped at the end of season 3 the very next year. I cared much about the creations of the fanbase so even though I hated it, I wasn't willing to let the alicorn princess thing drop me off the ball just yet, although I knew the fanbase had been pretty much torn apart by then. I watched the first two ep. airings of S4 and that was it; any other time I revisited the show again was after finding a surge in hype from the fans over a particular episode (cause you know, they dominate Deviantart so if something big occurs in the show then someone's art would reflect it).

Every time a big change comes around it kills me thinking about the toll it'll have on outdated art and writing. Many people I subscribe to (in a sense) stop doing what they do in so many areas because they're unwilling to keep up or, as I'm assuming, they're probably afraid their works won't appeal to their own targeted fan-audience anymore because canon practically dictates (or limits) the path that one's creativity takes for the majority of brownies and their works. If you don't like it, well then you're just probably not a true fan.

And yeah, that's my rant.
I've spent quite a bit of time marveling at the new-age nonsense and fun spewed out by the early fanbase of majority trolls and guys just messing around but I've stopped keeping up with their main source of inspiration so I'm out of the loop, technically frozen in time with my knowledge on things now (makes it hard to read some stories here)(honest, I thought Flurry was Twi's daughter in canon for weeks). The show must really suck by now but hey, the early fanbase (because the fanbase has changed; big names have left with good reason) is what MADE this boat in the first place 371883 my resolve, they [the show characters] are now what they have always been: it's a little girl's show, not your general cartoon.
And that's okay, but i just wish most people could acknowledge that first. (The writers sure had us fooled from the initial runs though amiright :p)

I have no desire for continuing the series so don't even start with me lol. I'm merely here because I once believed in a few set of characters, forged almost entirely by fans, to sate my own fanbase-dwelling needs after I left the last one I was into.
Also here because only 4 years ago I discovered the more notorious joys of fanfiction, heh~

Normally I wouldn't post anything political in this group, but word needs to be spread. The EU (or European Union) wants to finalize laws that would censor the entire internet for those under their jurisdiction.

There are plenty of articles for those who want more information, but the main gist is this: if the EU gets their way, sites like this could be BANNED in countries they run!

Here is just one of many petitions to spread the word: https://www.change.org/p/axel-voss-save-the-internet-reject-article-13-and-11/psf/promote_or_share

Again, normally I don't get political, but this is an exception.

Glad to see you here!

Finally, a group that understands my plight!

The CERRs will be a bit later than usual.

Edit: The review for Sounds of Silence is done, and I'll post it in a few hours to make sure I don't break any spoiler rules on the site.
