However just before the Friendship Summit in Griffonstone and the Daring Do Convention, the Griffon Ambassador writes to demand the return of the looted Griffon's Goblet. This is followed by a variety of letters from Griffonstone and elsewhere.
Daring Do visits her oldest foe, Ahuizotl, in the Hoofington Insane Asylum after receiving a letter from the administrator telling her that he was found a gibbering wreck.
She was prepared for a ruse, or something of the like.
She wasn't prepared for what she found in his cell, or the gruesome story that he told her.

In Zebrica, they are legends. The Eyes of the Demon, an artifact of immense magical power and insane destructive potential. For untold centuries they have been hidden away, only a few knowing their true location and awesome power.
Even Daring Do herself tries to write off the legends of the Eyes as little more than myths. But when a zebra warlord learns of their location, it's up to Daring to recover the Eyes of the Demon before this agent of strife can harness the power to destroy nations.

After suffering a severe incapacitating anxiety attack on one of her quests, Daring Do runs away to be in solitude. The jungle safeguards her and lull's her into a trance. But the trance is broken when Daring realizes that if she does not leave, she will die and be forgotten, like dead leaves blown away in the wind.
(Although this is not really a "dark story" per-say, the themes addressed in it are on the mature side.)
Follow the tale of Desert Dust, daughter to Equestria's greatest explorer and adventurer, Daring Do, as she uncovers a sinister plot to harness unnatural forces and meddle with the balance of life and death. Following the trail left to her by her missing mother, Dust will have to traverse the world and travel to far-flung locations, searching for her lost mother and continuing her quest for the legendary Cask of Undeath.
This fic features some moderate violence, but nothing too gruesome.
Daring Do has faced many perils in her life. Traps, monsters, villains, and even ponies with a god complex that would make Prince Blueblood look humble. But of everything's she's ever faced, perhaps the worst is what awaits her when each adventure ends. In a humble little house in Canterlot, Daring will confront a monster worse than any other.

The Empress of the Gryphon Empire sends "students" to Antiquarian Daring Do's class of Ethnological Geography. They enlist The help of Daring Do in uncovering the mystery behind the origins of Gryphons.
It is the hope of the Empress that what Daring Do finds can stop a jingoistic party from starting a civil war or even a war with Equestria.
