It occurred one peaceful night. Half of Equestria awoke to the sound like a double-shot thunderclap. A percussion heard in the skies and rattling windows from Apploosa, to Canterlot, to Ponyville. Nopony knew what it was or what it heralded for the world as it drew a line across the nation.

For Twilight Sparkle, this isolated incident might have faded from memory after a time, if not for the strange rumors of a creature sitting on the hill on the outskirts of town.

One thousand years ago the Mare in the Moon was released from her prison with the aid of the stars, precipitating a series of events that fulfilled an ancient prophecy and changed Equestria forever. Now one young filly sets out to learn the truth of what happened only to discover a secret history and a wonderful destiny of her own.

Ponies have done some crazy things for love, but Twilight Sparkle and Rainbow Dash have come up with the hair-brained scheme to top them all. Based on the success Applejack had with her ex-automaton husband, they decide to wake up the robots Nil and Null. They don't see the harm in having the machines masquerade as their special someponies for the day. Surely, it won't have any lasting consequences.

Ah'm trying to tell you guys, but yer not listenin'. Haven't you two noticed Twilight actin' different lately? How she's always nervous in public now? Or how 'bout the fact she's never at her library no more? It's like she's hidin' somethin' and Ah know what it is. She's got wings, and we're gonna prove it.

When Twilight Sparkle and her friends are invited to the wedding of her estranged older brother, Shining Armor, it seems like a good opportunity for the siblings to reconnect. Rainbow Dash walks through the deserted, snowed streets of Ponyville, looking for a place to get warm and finds herself at the door of the local library. Even in the coldest of winter days, warmth can be found, and, as she soon figures out, there are many ways to share your warmth with another.

Spike wants to confess to Twilight about how he feels about her on Mother's Day, but the fact that he's a dragon makes this difficult and he wants her to understand. But unfortunately, the Wishing Bone got to him first...

This is a story that I found on Derpiboo.ru in the form of a synopsis (merely replaced Poison Joke with Wishing Bone), and I would like to flesh it out.

Twilight has never truly discovered the extent of just how powerful she is as the Element of Magic. Her lessons of friendship were the guidelines she set her life on; to help and understand those around her.

So what happens when someone she holds closer to her heart than anything else is ripped from her without mercy? Can she abide to the lessons she has learnt in the past? Or would she go to any lengths to see that someone safe, if she believed she was their only chance for salvation?

In the aftermath of the Changeling invasion, Twilight Sparkle realized the great (and, in retrospect, obvious) flaw of the Elements of Harmony - They may well be Equestria's greatest weapon against evil in the right hooves, but the artifacts themselves are vulnerable.

But what if the power of the Elements could be summoned without the jeweled necklaces, without the tiara? Working off little more then cryptic hints from her mentor, Twilight embarked on a mission, plumbing the depths of the royal archives to rediscover an ancient ritual, one which could concentrate the Elements within their living vessels...a ritual she has finally found.
