Many years have passed and Twilight Sparkle finds she is terribly lonely. She has all the power and wisdom she could ever want now that she is an alicorn, but feels incomplete without her friends. When she returns to her old library home in Ponyville, she begins to contemplate her life and the major changes she has experienced.

History is a vague thing. It is written by those who are left behind to tell the tale. Who can tell truth from fiction if any chance for a viable reference is far beyond reach?

What knowledge is altered? What is lost? What is hidden away?

And for what purpose?

Knowledge can be a powerful yet dangerous tool. Especially dangerous for those that rely on knowledge alone.

Twilight Sparkle has been betrayed by Celestia, all her friends brutally killed in front of her eyes after the young unicorn woke up one morning with wings. Celestia had realized that Twilight had been chosen by the Elements of Harmony to replace Luna and herself as the leading force of Equestria, and correctly surmised that the other Elements would have followed shortly after and become a united force the current princesses couldn’t hope to defeat if they chose to contest their position for the throne. Even though Twilight doesn't want to acknowledge her destiny as Equestria's next chosen ruler, the new alicorn cannot let the tyrants she has now seen Celestia and Luna really are remain in power.
Armed with only the Elements of Harmony and her burning rage, Twilight sets out to avenge her friends and free Equestria from Celestia and Luna's tyranny.
The fate of Equestria, as well as the balance of this entire universe, hinges on Twilight's success.

It's almost Mother's Day. Scootaloo comes to Rainbow Dash with a startling question, but then backs off, feeling ashamed she asked it. Rainbow Dash, taken off-guard by the question, starts to question both herself, how she feels about Scootaloo, and about her past...

What started as a normal friendly visit ends up taking two ponies on a trip down memory lane that leads them both to realize their friendship began even before Rainbow Dash's first sonic rainboom.

How do you cope when all your friends are dying of old age around you, but you seem not to be growing older at all? Twilight Sparkle tackles this problem for herself the only way she's ever known how: research, and then contacting Princess Celestia for advice. The explanation she gets is nothing like what she could have expected, and it will change Twilight's life forever.

Twilight becomes alicorn of the stars. This is sort of a problem, because Luna kind of already was alicorn of the stars. Oops!
