But matters are complicated when Sunset befriends a young mare named Summer, who possesses the unerring ability to tell truth from lies, and who delivers a grim verdict: Sunset does not love Twilight. Sunset is thrown into doubt over her feelings, and at the worst possible time; for Tall Lake is not only a popular tourist destination, but also a hotbed of crooks and spies, with danger and excitement around every corner - and Twilight risks being caught in a web of deception and villainy.

Twilight, in an attempt to impress Princess Celestia, creates an ominous mechanical device for the science portion of her advanced studies in the arcane sciences. Even though she is the creator, not even she knows the power of her magical artifact. This occurs after Magical Mystery Cure. As friends leave her, and as life goes on, Twilight suffers from depression and turns to her machine for help. Little does she know that the treacherous, malevolent spirit inside it just might ruin her life. This story is inspired by the song "September" by The Living Tombstone. The cover art is by DivineArms, who has a Deviant Art page. He also does animations, and posts them on Youtube by the name DivineArms22.
