So We Have a Bit of a Situation Over in the Just Essay Camp... · 1:30am Jul 18th, 2016
Hey, y'all. Remember this story?
No? Good, cuz I don't.
Kinda strange, really, seeing as I'm still writing it every day (or at least every other day). Anywho, something snazzy happened the other day... or at least something snazzy if the story wasn't a total train wreck of a sadistic word-mangler. Appledashery reached 1000 chapters. Eeyup. 1000 chapters of Rainbow Dash juggling depression and fight scenes and endless freckle!fawning.
But then, just today, something happened that... scared me to the core. I think only a screenshot can effectively express the sudden impasse that I am inexplicably at:
That's right. As it turns out, Fimfiction has a maximum chapter allotment for a given story. In a lot of ways, this makes sense, considering that the site was never built with thoughtless, talentless robots in mind. And yet, voila, this lemur has done it. I have written a total of 1000 manic-depressive poni poni poni chapters only to realize that there are no more steps towards becoming the internet brony dovahkiin.

And this is more than just a little bit true. I've already spoken with someone on the inside who confirms that--indeed--1k chapters is the limit for any sane basement child attempting to craft horse words on Knighty's pocket of the internet.
I'm not in any way desiring to fight this. Because holy shit how low can you go.
The solution, to me, is stupidly simple. Appledashery Volumes One and Two, beloved female dogs!
And yet, it also presents--as Noble Jurists would say--a "headache." I'm not too fond of when and where Appledashery hit 1k chapters (though I only have myself to blame). Also, the fic is quite literally about to hit a major, huge, friggin' tonal shift in storytelling. In other words... it would have been really... really nice if the 1k limit struck... say... about ten to fifteen chapters later. Maybe less, in all honesty.
So, here's my current proposal. I'm going to keep writing Appledashery daily and at the pace that I've done it at. Then, once all is said and done, I'll go back and recompile the structure of Volume One so that it ends the way that is most thematically sound. In other words, Appledashery is being curtailed necessarily for the sake of structure... which is ironically kind of the opposite of what's going over in Utaan at the moment (which is going now swimmingly, by the way thanks for asking).
Do know that I'm not fond of robbing the masochistic crowd of Just Essay readers of their daily viewership just because I'm attempting to craft a succinct cliffhanger to open into a Volume Two. Even if it won't take very long now to get there, I think it will be best in the long run. And believe-you-me, when it comes to Just Essay's horsefiction, the "long run" is the only way to think shiet up.
So, Austraeoh had a teensy bit of a vacation. Seems like it's time for the legacy of Appledashery to chill for a bit while I set things up. What can you expect? Well, I'll do a blargh on both SS&E and Just Essay to alert everyone. At such a time, you'll see that Appledashery will be renamed to "Appledashery Volume One" with a "Complete" tag. It will be at that moment that I attempt uploading an "Appledashery Volume Two." That way, the holocaust will continue.
Please know that this won't happen exactly overnight. Also, there's a lot of sensitive stuff to keep track of in the world of Fimfic logistics, and I don't wanna step on any marsupials' toes. So... if titles get changed or other drastic things happen, don't be surprised, and I'll keep you all abreast as best as I can.
But know that I'm going to continue to write Appledashery every day, aiming towards this goal... this... transition of horse depression into horse mania. In the long run, looking back, I think it will appear fitting... almost as if I planned it from the start. Which I did... and yet I didn't. F'naa.
In any case, thanks for your time, and sorry for the necessary lapse in rainbow blues. It's going to be a bumpy ride.

Hey we stuck with you when you restructured EoP to make that easier to read... Just... you know... Keep writing Appledashery instead of the permanent incomplete and updatingness that is EoP.

Oh man now I just have this thought in my head that won't go away, what if you knew the limit was 1000 beforehand and made that the original stopping point for Austraeoh. Every book 1000 chapters long! Oh man that would be crazy.
I wonder if there's also a thousand story limit by authors?
Not that I'm going to get there anytime soon, but. . . .

I can only imagine the what kind of temptation it must have been to not just add on the following onto the last chapter:

Hey, those are a lot of messages, for an author who doesn't interact directly. Either all from a single day, asking what happened to the new chapter, or from the last several days, warning Essay beforehand of the chapter limit so the story doesn't just end in the middle of nowhere.

4098464 As I've said in a comment before, simply read the title of the very first chapter. It sums up the underlying impetus behind all the hijinks and adventures, but it is not necessarily the story's core focus; the driving element, but not the plot itself.
So how are we going to get notifications on this story from now on? Are you going to keep posting the 1000th chapter until the break comes in or...?

Step two: Paste chapter onto end of chapter before it
Step three: Rename chapter "Chapter 998s name + chapter 999s name"
Repeat general idea until you get to a point where you want to split the story into second volume.

Just read the now completed volume 1 while Utaan enjoys a slight hiatus. Wow, just wow, so many feels. So many high high's and low low's. I can't wait for volume 2 to start. Every time the story started to get epically sad I'd remind myself that Scoots promised that the tale ends with AJ and RD cuddling and that would get me through the feels.
