Site Post » FAQ Updates · 8:01pm Oct 29th, 2013
Hi guys!
So for those of you who don't spend long hours poring over the rules, Fimfiction's Lovely Dovely Beautiful FAQ has been updated! There've been quite a few big changes/additions made to make things clearer and cooler, so be sure to give it a good read-through.
A brief FAQ about FAQs:
Does this mean the FAQ has been updated?
Yes. Go read it again.
But Obs, I've already read the FAQ in a previous lifetime. Doesn't this make me too handsome and clever to need to read it again?
Handsome and clever as you are, go read it again. We've made a fair number of changes that you really ought to be aware of, including some details about NSFW content, general rule upfixes, and clarifying alterations to Story Submission Rules.
What's FAQ stand for?
FAQs Are Qool. Go read them.
(Again)
Groovy~
Now, maybe more people will also read Ezn's guide as they pull up the FAQs and save us from some of that poorly written stuff.
So what is there to complain about this time? I am eager to know.

I'm sure we'll find something
"My question is asked WAY more frequently than some of these stupid ones. The Fimfiction community will not stand for the blatant favoritism that the mods are displaying here. Obviously all the power they wield has gone to their heads!"
You guys scrapped the Sci-Fi tag. is there a FAQ about that? Is there?!
Thanks for keeping us informed, guys.
1464379
The potential of other people complaining?
1464379 The fact that I have to read all the way through it again because you didn't see fit to give us registered users who've already read it the cliffnotes.
tl;dr.

Ah yes, my apologies for not making this easy for you. Allow me to instead not re-write the FAQ and leave the vast majority of these changes unsaid and only need-to-know. Let me instead leave everything vague and make both of our lives more difficult.
I was born in 1984 and now I've grown to see a 1984 on the site. Ah~ Feels like another birthday.

Well faq...
The examples still have password that I don't know...
There be a typo in yer FAQ.
Okay, we've had a complaint about the form, a complaint about the content, a comparison to 1984 and a declaration that it's too long.
All we need is Hitler and the illuminati and I've got a full house!
What's my prize?
1464430
It's "password"
So no NSFW anything in blogs, and no NSFW pictures in groups or comments. NSFW includes "excessive cleavage", so just about anything that couldn't make it into an EqD art post. Does that about cover the non-story NSFW updates?
1464439
Grief. Truckloads of grief.
so are nsfw blogs gone for good...
Clarification: in most sections you specifically call out NSFW images as being verboten. Blog entries however mention NSFW content. Does this mean blog posts cannot link to or discuss mature stories now?
Oh noes, my account was teh banned!!!1! What do I do?!
That made me fucking lol in class.
Roger, wilco, you sexy beast.
1464453 It's already been mentioned in previous comments that linking to NSFW stories is fine.
1464451 1464453
I'm guessing yes, as specific stories and groups are "opt-in" while blogs are "broadcast". Since we can't have a NSFW tag for blogs, everyone gets the notification, and the members with "view mature" turned off might get upset.
Edit: 1464467
So linking is ok, but NSFW text within the post is verboten, yes? Or is it just images that are a no-no? The FAQ seems to indicate the former.
HAHA! I'm commenting before I read!
EDIT:
Knighty stop breaking time plz
Hu, being a dick seems to be a no-no... So says about three pages of rules.
1464453
1464471
You can make blogs linking to Mature stories on-site, but you should ideally mark them as such and avoid mentioning anything particularly explicit.
1464415
YOU! Your the one that has been a... -reads over the rules one more time- very... Nice person to my book.
1464484
Ah, OK. So no mature content within the text of the post. Links to groups/stories containing the mature text are different, as they require the reader to do something to see it.
1464491
Was that.... Clapping?
1464484
Does 'do not post' in regard to images include links, or links to pages where they occur? Not that I'm bursting with ponipornopics I want to share, just wondering whether that is the rule or not.
1464408
Top lel.
1464496
Linking to a NSFW image/place where you're going to see a bunch of NSFW images is functionally equivalent to just embedding a NSFW image on the page, so that'd be a no-no too.
1464415 But... Aren't mods supposed to serve my own specific personal whims and desires? What do you want me to do, act like an adult and read the FAQ without whining?
Well, I think these changes are good. Better safe (for work) than sorry.
By the way Obs... a little while ago, I recall you mentioning that the option to send blog post notifications to everyone who favorited certain stories would be brought back. I'm planning on making a visual companion to one of my stories, and would like to link it to people who faved said story. So I'm wondering when that will be implemented. Sooner? Or later?
1464437
On the one hand, we could fix this.
On the other hand, HALLOWEEN TIME CRISIS.
So you understand our dilemma.
1464501
So, there's no allowable way to (for example) tell anyone about a NSFW pony tumblr on this site anymore, outside of PMs? And is (for example) the occasional NSFW post on a tumblr enough to blacklist it? I just want to make sure, here.
1464493
Um, I don't know? I just wanted to make sure I had things straight.
1464520
Does that include re-worded songs?
(Such as 'The Prince of Egypt - Playing with the Big Boys Now' as seen in this story)
Excellent. Now, how is the advertising issue coming along? I haven't seen an ad on this site, just the blank white banner, for weeks now.
1464520
is there anyway to change a blog that was marked as nsfw only to save space on my user page to safe? Or are these blogs and there comments lost forever?
The images aren't showing up on the "Download" answer.
1464519
Knighty's working on this, but he's got an awful lot of stuff on his plate at the moment, so how soon you're likely to see it implemented is up in the air.
Which isn't to say you'll only see it when your grandkids are going off to college, it's just dependent on how knighty's schedule works out on that one.
1464521
Sadly, no. Linking folks to NSFW tumblr blogs isn't a cool thing people can do anymore.
In regards to how bad a tumblr has to be to get blacklisted, it's probably not a big deal if there was like one NSFW post two years ago, but if scrolling through a few pages of the tumblr is in any way likely to show you some naughty content, you should refrain.
1464543
If you wrote the blog, you can go to your Manage Blogs page and click the Edit button on your NSFW blog to dig up what you wrote for it.
Obviously this isn't leeway to retrieve and repost NSFW content, but if you happened to make an important post that you marked NSFW for spoiler reasons or somesuch, you can dig the info up and repost it if you want. No way to unmark it, though. Sorry.
1464562
alrighty then
1464501 hey you stole my no-noes!
Stories containing copyrighted song lyrics. This includes lyrics from songs in the show.
Lots and lots of stories have this, did you mean music links or actual text? Cause I'm pretty sure the average story that has lots of Pinkie Pie in it has at least one scene where Pinkie Pie sings songs from the show...
1464482
Yeah, don't do that.
1464521
Sorry, my sarcasm sometimes just gets the better of me, I was just being me so to speak
1464603
I would ask what but I'm guessing its stealing my no-noes...
1464562
At the risk of dredging up something that's been settled...
It might be a good idea to add something about the '5S/4' ban and something about not posting non-narrative chapters, rather than making people hunt down the relevant site posts.
I know the 'don't post non-story content' rule is posted on the New Story page, but you might just want to clarify the policy in the FAQ.
A change log would have been nice, but I guess re-reading through it won't be that bad...
...once I wake up. 40 hours of staying awake takes its toll on you
