Chapter 1: Advanced A.I. (Rewritten Chapter One/New Story)

Author's Note:

Hey, guys! Yeah, I'm bringing this old dinosaur back from the dead. I decided to try and "restart" this story and try to push it off in a different direction. This new inspiration is from the other Legion story that got featured. I haven't read it yet, but perhaps at a later date. (It's in my full read later box) Anyways...let me know what you guys think in regards of whether or not to continue in this direction and please, constructive feedback would be nice. Sorry this chapter is short, but hey: I'm a little rusty, so let's start out slow, hmm?

Edit: This is set a few episodes after Luna's return in season 1. Twilight is not a Princess.

The night sky was beautiful, as it has always been since Luna's return. At least that's what Twilight thinks whenever she views the stars from her new telescope she got a week and a half prior to tonight. From purchasing the object and getting it delivered, to opening the box and smelling that 'new telescope' scent, nothing could ruin tonight's scheduled stargazing. Yes, ever since Luna's return the Lunar Princess has always wanted to rearrange the night sky, fearing it had gone unchecked when she left a thousand years ago. Luckily for Twilight, she got to see it first-hoof and started marking the new starry night the instant Luna was finished with her grand design. That was last night...and Twilight is almost done.

Sifting through the celestial markings wasn't easy, especially when you were raised with a completely different looking night sky. In any case, Twilight was getting hungry and she decided that a 'light' midnight snack wouldn't be so bad while she was finishing up the final details of her new star chart. Getting up from her gazing spot, she got up to all fours and stretched her back, a nice little pop accompanying a great tingly feeling coming from the top of her back, which ever so slightly spread to her lower back. With a quick twist of the neck, and a few blinks to get her eyes adjusted, she was finally ready to get a snack.

Twilight entered the kitchen eyeing the cupboard where the peanut butter was stored. She opened it, using her illustrious magic, taking out the delicious and spreadable substance. Next she needed bread, which she took from the bread drawer. A couple slices of bread fell out of the packaging. Looking to see what the disturbance was, Twilight saw that the bread wasn't closed last time somepony used it.

"Oh Spike." Twilight picked up the two pieces of bread that fell on the floor. Against her better nature, she twisted the bread bag back up and left the two spoiled pieces of bread on the table. "He knows that bread molds when the bag is left open..." Twilight shut the drawer, and drew a knife from the kitchen strainer. "Oh well, waste not want not." She paused, thinking about the spoiled contents in front of her, but finally dipped her knife into the peanut butter, and finally spread a decent serving of the fattening cream on a slice of bread.

Before putting the two slices of bread together and ultimately completing the sandwich, a sudden poof came out of nowhere. Scaring the daylights out of her, Twilight's magic had a spasm and made her toss the two pieces of bread into the air. Looking up to see the incoming bread, Twilight's magic was too slow to react and she got a big slap of peanut butter all over her face. She picked up the bread that fell on the floor and the one on her face, and set them in the trash bin.

Twilight grabbed the wash cloth that was in the sink, turning on the water. While waiting for the water to warm up a little, Twilight looked over to where the poof startled her. On the ground was a letter, rolled up and tied together with a nice read ribbon. This was Celestia's new way to send mail in the evening, when she knew Spike would probably be put to bed. Twilight's mood somewhat lightened up, and with a quick swipe of her magical grasp she brought the letter up to her face.

Before reading the letter, Twilight turned the water off, and dipped the wash cloth into the warm pool of water. With quick and careful wipes, the peanut butter on her face was no more. Now, Twilight could focus on what the Princess needed.

She opened the letter and inside it said;

Dear Twilight,

Luna seems to be concerned with something. She came into my chambers not too long ago, and informed me that she felt something, like a disturbance in the sky. Knowing that my sister's warnings or concerns are not to be taken lightly, I was hoping you might have seen what might have caused a disturbance. Luna told me you were stargazing tonight, so I only thought to ask you first. Thank you and please respond to me as quick as possible.

Princess Celestia

"Oh shoot!" Twilight trotted over to her telescope. Unfortunately for her, it was zoomed in on one of the new constellations Luna created. Fiddling with the controls, she finally got the telescope zoomed out, but to her dismay nothing was happening. "Dang it..." Twilight bounded to her letter podium, taking her quill and dipping it into the ink a few times. She started writing her response to Celestia.

Dear Princess Celestia,

I'm sorry to report that I didn't see anything through my telescope. I was preoccupied and the time must have got away from me. I will look into this anomaly as soon as I get a lead. Strange that something like this would happen after your sister, Princess Luna, decided to change the night sky. Perhaps you should keep an eye on her in case this is something she has done.

Twilight Sparkle

Twilight sent the letter via Celestia's personal spell and with a poof, it was on its way. Twilight returned to the telescope, eager to catalog the rest of the sky and head off to bed; especially now that her snack was ruined. She leaned into the lens once more, focusing the giant instrument's lens on the last of Luna's new constellations. Twilight brought up her parchment containing the rest of the charted stars and started to jot down each of their locations.

Something strange was happening though. Each time she looked down at her parchment, a single star was easing its way downwards. It appeared to be coming towards the planet's surface, but...that's impossible isn't it? Twilight got back up, returning to her letter podium. She started to scribble some words down, but a loud noise caught her attention. Somepony was knocking on her window. She made her way over to the window, opening it with her magic. Not to her surprise, it was her friend Rainbow Dash.

"Dash, I've asked you before to use the front door like a normal pony." Twilight scolded, shutting the window after Rainbow mad her way inside.

"Yeah, but what's the fun in that when you can fly into the Great Twilight Sparkle's house." She gestured to her wings with her hooves. "Anyways, I thought I'd let you know that something is up with the sky."

Twilight threw the letter Celestia sent her earlier at the blue Pegasus. "Yeah, I've been informed." She returned to the telescope, eyeing the "rogue star" which was getting closer. "I take it that this is what you are referring to?" She gestured to the telescope, to which Rainbow Dash looked through handing the letter back to Twilight.

After a short moment, Dash raised her head back up. "Yes, the speck in the sky is getting closer to us." Rainbow sat down on the pillow Twilight has been using all night, shuffling in the new seat to get comfortable. "The only reason I noticed is because I have a house in the sky." Twilight nodded in agreement. That is a good way to notice something like that. "And I also have a sixth sense for these things. You know, come to think of it, I've only gotten this feeling ever since you and I met. Strange, huh?"

"Yeah, same here." Twilight responded. "I just hope this doesn't cause an uproar."

Before Rainbow could respond, something loud popped through the air. It sounded a lot like a sonic boom, but eerily different at the same time. They both looked at each, ears down and worried looks on their faces. At the same time they trotted to the window, looking over Ponyville. Almost all the lights were on and most residents were out of their houses. Not surprisingly, Spike made his way into the room, scratching his back with one claw and adjusting his night-cap with the other.

"What was that?" He groggily asked.

Twilight looked to him. "Spike, are you awake enough to take a letter?" He rubbed one of his eyes, but wearily nodded. Twilight floated a quill and parchment over to the little dragon, who was ready to jot down Twilight's every word. "Ready..." Spike nodded again. "A-hem... Dear Princess Celestia."

If your going to start the story anew, then please rewrite it from chapter one?

"Yeah, same (hear)." Twilight responded.

Is that supposed to be (here).
Aside from that great rewrite. Would have bolded the words, but I don't know how to.

Interesting, but I think if you're starting from scratch you should probably just rewrite the chapters you've already posted (or copy/paste). Not sure how much my opinion counts to you, but this chapter doesn't have enough information to form a solid opinion (saying this on the assumption the first 3 chapters are now irrelevant). I would like to see this continued (for it has peaked my curiosity and stars one of my favorite characters), and finally I'm sorry but this is annoying me for some reason.

"Yeah, same hear." Twilight responded. "I just hope this doesn't cause an uproar."

I believe it's spelled 'here' used like this.

YES!!!

THE STORY CONTINUES!!!

The geth have arived to take the planet for themselves!

Well, this is definitely more detailed than the original. One could say it's a tad too many descriptions, but I liked it.
Watch out for things like:

That was last night...and Twilight is almost done.

You got yourself a wrong tense there.

I also can't say that Twilight would insinuate that Luna is making something up... I don't think it fits her style. Also, why make Spike send a letter if she can do that herself?

And that scene with ponies out of their houses. How long did they stand there after hearing the "meteor"? For everyone to be already out, either Twi and RD took excessively long to get to that window or those ponies are lightning-fast and are very light sleepers... or it wasn't as late as I thought. Might be that they were not asleep. Still, those ponies appeared a bit too fast out there in the streets.

Also, is this on hiatus or not? If not, you might want to change the status of the story.

That's not the link, that's the actual picture in "text form". I don't know why it happens, but some people seem to post them instead of links. Must be some odd browser or some such.
Also, nice necro.:trollestia:

Thanks for pointing that out! Gonna be honest, I kinda feel like an idiot for not catching that myself. I think I have been reading too many Youtube comments.

4903823
Oh, one more thing. That part that you mentioned with the ponies of Ponyville exiting their houses so quickly. Well, I'm not making excuses here but you have to admit: 1.) Not only do ponies react to situations of danger by having panic attacks, but 2.) it is also set in a cartoon world where things can happen extraordinarily fast. I don't know, but I think it fits the setting. I should probably mention that I changed it to regular Twilight and that this is only a few episodes after the season 1 premiere. Sorry.

"rouge star"

rouge is french for red I think you meant rogue

Thank you my friend. Ironically, I am taking a second course of French this year. Another thing I should have caught.
