The gathering of the world's worst, visited this year by a special guest: The world's Flutterest. And shyest, I suppose.

Loosely inspired by the 1939 Eugene O'Neil play 'Flutterdeath', the 1981 Frank Zappa song 'Minions', and the age old Finnish tradition of telling particularly devious japes and jiberies on the date known there as 'April Fool's Day'. Featuring a special mystery guest appearance! Who is it? Read inside and find out!

For the second time in its long life, the Smooze was being killed by a Flutter.

Exquisite.

“Good” is not the same as “nice,” and that cuts both ways. Harmony works in mysterious and sometimes traumatizing ways, and the wise know how to make themselves part of its toolkit. It’s generally better than being what those tools are used on.

Outstanding work all around. Thank you for it.

come hell or high water, its good to know i can always rely on the post and FanOfMostEverything.

Life ebbs and flows like a blob monster. I used to be an upload fiend for this site, but a promotion at my job has left me so little time for recreational reading and writing in 2024. Thank Faust for Str8aura uploads. Even your gag stories have plenty to take in and discuss.

The Map

Of all the lazy plot devices in Gen 4, the Cutie Map was my favorite. Always interpreted it as an avatar of the Hasbro board of directors. In this episode, character A and/or character B will go to location C and interact with the new toy we need to sell. So sayeth the market research.

I've developed since then."

Applejack sighed. "Lucky."

Fruit horse is, was, and always will be one of the ponies of all time.

Back to the fic itself, even joke stories need to establish internally consistent rules, and the vetting process with the bugbear bouncer is a shining example of this. Villain cred is currency, and Fluttershy cheating the system with Sombra’s horn pulls triple duty; it’s funny, it builds character, and it cements the theme introduced in the previous scene: the nicest member of the cast has a job to do in the meanest nexus of the setting. Can she do it with her integrity intact?

Had to check the Christmas upload to see if the dragons in this story matched the OCs from that one. Only a few paragraphs later, I found there was no need when one got horrifically killed off. Your meta gags remain on point, with this Smooze clearly being the Gen 1 incarnation. Deadly, talkative, and scary in a way that skirts tv censors. Fluttershy however, remains firmly Gen 4 in her sensibilities. Which naturally steers the conflict from a survival struggle to a therapy session. God, your slickness and toying with tone is unmatched.

Born from a bump on a log before the birth of the universe,

Welp, since musical numbers don’t work in text form, I’ll just have to imagine Smooze’s villain song that naturally occurs right here. "I’m the peel on which you slip, I’m the pin in every hip, I’m the thorn that’s in your side, makes you wriggle, makes you writhe…”

Also, it goes without saying, but your descriptions of the Smooze puppeting the landscape are chef’s kiss creative. Again, I know it's rooted in Gen 1 imagery, but the contrast with a clearly Gen 4 dragon shows just how unfettered the 80s were for animated fantasy monsters.

"Because he's unoriginal." Smooze snidely added.

Tough talk from a literally nameless blob.

Near the tail end of the impromptu group therapy session, my storyteller instincts were reminding me that this absurd scene was unfolding in a convention center bathroom. And less than a paragraph later, you presented a gag of someone in line knocking on the door. Nice to know we’re both still sharp after all these years.

"Masterplan Workshopping."

And there we resolve the theme. Fluttershy’s integrity was never in any danger at all, since her talent for group cohesion applies to both heroic and villainous endeavors. And, as the epilogue indicates, there’s no danger in giving the villains a fighting chance. The Mane Six are invincible.

Bravo on another mechanically tight story when you could have absolutely gotten away with a low-effort joke upload. Fluttershy’s plan for a panel even leaves the door open for a sequel next year. I know you’ve cut your teeth with Happy Tree Friends, and the practice really shows with the casual carnage of this Smooze’s means of maneuvering. I need to get back in the pony-sized saddle and churn out some new Snippets of my own. Didn’t realize how much I’ve missed these.
I’ll close with one last viscous vid of an amorphous antagonist. If Fluttershy were to coax an I Want song out of the Smooze to compliment the villain one, it’d assuredly be of a lecherous lump of lazy liquid looking for love.

I did indeed realize I was using a red dragon twice in a row, but the name and personality are different, and a lot of dragons are red anyways. Bite me.

Cutting my teeth is right. I've got a couple irons in the fire, most of which are not tied down to a particular source material, and at least one of which I'd very much like to receive your seal of approval, no matter how many hours or weeks or months that may take, simply because I trust your word above all else.

In times like these, long after the show has ended and as I've outgrown the cradle this website provided me with, I do sometimes wonder what future this Fimfiction account has in store. But I do intend to stay the course as long as I can, and so far I don't seem to be outgrowing My Little Pony altogether. This website, and you, taught me the joys of writing, and forged a part of me which I can never and will never leave behind.

I'm happy to hear life's treating you well. If you ever pick up any more frequently-used accounts on other websites, MTG deck building sites aside, I'd be more than happy to dutifully follow you, friendo. You are as always a real one.

Also, I hate writing dialogue for Smooze. It feels, for a lack of a better term, way too Smoozey for me. It icks and it ooks me to no end.

I think Smooze's dialogue is great. Might as well mix some ham into your gelatin.

I'm humbled to be considered an authority on rough draft ideas. Admittedly, I'm not one for social media. I am however, always reachable via DM. Either on this site or a certain other one where I always appear offline but really I just value my privacy.

Keep on keepin' on. I plan to returning to Fimfiction soon as well, since this four month break has been the longest I've taken since the start of my account. Snippets, a few longforms, and (Faust willing) a long belated magnum opus starring a sad little robot.
